So I found a 97 Gs-t that is pretty clean and i plan on picking it up next saturday. Before i buy the car i just wanted to check to see if there is any common problems that i should look for while i am testing it out.

Shaft play on the turbo, crankwalk(turn car tight left and see if clutch hits the floor), make sure theres no rust or anything showing it hasnt been kept in good condition. How much do they want for it?

CW is overrated. The most important thing is what are you looking for and HOW much are you willing to dump into it. Its a DSM plan on spending lots of time and money IF you do your homework you can have a reliable DD that has the potential to run with the best.

Thanks for the quick response. Its a 97 with 90k miles getting it for 5k. though that was pretty good since the mileage is down.

What rush said :hellyeah: If it were me I'd do as 2gawdtsi said and take the intake pipe off and check for shaftplay on the turbo but dont force it or you'll create it. Then do a compression test to see where the health of the motor lies as a whole. If both of those look good and it looks like it was maintained, I'd kick the tire a few times then buy it. ah airmail beat me to the compression test. If it doesnt have oil leaks then theres something wrong with it ROFL

Check for rust on the strut towers and on the underbody (even though you're from Texas, the car might not be). I'd also check in the spare tire pit in the trunk and make sure there's no standing water there. I'd also see when the most recent timing belt job was done. Welcome to the DSM world! Just to set some proper expectations, don't expect it to be quite as reliable as your 350Z - owning a DSM is an adventure sometimes!
