ahh so you went for silver, i thought you were getting black rims for some reason. They look good dave!

Haha, look at that engine bay pic!!! you should have posted that pic and then asked, "here is a pic of my engine bay, how fast do you think i just ran at the track?" I would have said a low 14 is doable! hahaha

It's hard to see in the pics, but the rims are only silver on the outside. The back and sides of the spokes are black. It looks better in person.

I got another vid posted. This one was taken just after sunset, so it's dark. This is the 11.70 @115 run. I zoomed the camera onto the boost gage and tach to see how much boost it was holding at high rpm. Unfortunately it was too dark to see much, and the vibration shaking the camera looks even worse when it's zoomed. It helps to crank up the brightness and contrast on your monitor. About the only thing you can really see in this vid is a green LED that I wired into the solenoid that controls boost. I installed the LED so I'd know if the solenoid was working or not. When the green LED is on it means the wastegate is not getting any pressure. Basically like the wastegate hose is disconnected. Also make sure the sound is On so you can hear what the engine is doing, like stutterbox, shifting and revving. Enjoy!

Woah, those polished slips look awesome. I might have to get some, haha.

Yeah, 30+ counts of knock sure will kill all of the fun. I'm sure your timing was in single digits because of that.

I'd say definately find a way to get some colder air to the intake, and WOW that's so stock looking under the hood . Awesome work for sure bud.

Wow, what a sleeper. Your car looks good though, I like the color. Yea if it were me Id do the cold air intake since its a super cheap mod, then id work on getting a FMIC then fuel. That could just get you your goal right there.

Maybe this will help you decied on the CAI.
Check post number #114 and you can see what I did cheap back when I had my 2g mas.

Anyways what kind of weight reduction have you done, what all do you have taken out to get to your race weight?

Great Job as always Dave! I love how you like to push that 14B to it's limits. I can't wait too see what your next bag of tricks has in store for us.

Dave's already been in the 10's with his gt35(non bb). He has all the supporting mods to max that turbo out.

I believe his smog is due soon, so he's just having fun with the 14b while the car looks stock enough to pass smog. I think after he maxes out the setup as it is his plans are to put all the gt35 mods on (smim, cams, fmic) and then see what the 14b can push out with those mods, then throw on the gt35 and really make some power and have fun.

He cant make a good CAI while running the stock sidemount as thats where the air would feed from or where the filter would sit. Once he throws on the FMIC and other mods he'll think of something to get a nice cold intake charge.

Anyways Dave, i talked to Sean today and ive got dyno time scheduled for next tuesday, so unless my car blows up, i'll be there wed the 17th with a decent tune. :thumb:

Lets try to get a good video camera and someone to film so we can all have runs to post up!

What a coincidence, I have a dyno session with Sean at FFtec.com next Wednesday morning! We'll both be rocking fresh dyno tunes for the races.

I installed my 1k injectors today, so now I have room to play with the fuel and tune out the knock. Maybe I can get a little more aggressive with the boost control.

The weight reduction is extensive. The interior is stripped except for the dash, drivers door, and some padding around the drivers footwell so my feet don't catch on the wires and stuff. I have a light race seat and manual seatbelt. No passengers seat, so if anyone wants a joy ride you'll be doing a human imitation of a pinball maching. :) No rear bumper, half a front bumper, removed ABS, PS, CC, AC. Removed a couple dozen things that weigh less than 5 pounds. Still have metal hood and hatch, no lexan, no carbon fiber.

Re: CAI
I'll just remove the headlight next time.

I think you should put a FMIC on the car and that'll cure most of your knock issues. You have a fast car, with a stock overworked turbo blowing alot of hot air. More fuel, will help but I fear you may loose power. I trust your judgement, and am not questioning your tunning . If you can add 1k cc injecters, bust out the grill on the car. I see the car going alot faster, and would like to see what she'll do on the little turbo. 11.10-11.40 at 116-118. Maybe more depending on how light, you'll get her.:thumb:

Alot of your mods Leon said would be the best for a 14b car years ago. Got damn, if anyone but you wouldn't have done it. I dont see Phil at all in this Tread, yet. I figured I had to use some spray to get these times. I'm happy to say I was wrong.:thumb:

Good times! too bad i'll be at work while sean tunes my car haha, at least you will be tuning your own car!!!

Dave, i have a dejon intake if you want it, i dont know if your home depot one is good enough or what, but its that black dejon tool 2gmas to 3" inlet i believe (maybe 2.75"). Just let me know if it'll help at all

I'm going to the track in 2 days. The changes I've made since last time are a set of bigger injectors, and I have an appointment for dyno tuning on FFTec.com's AWD Mustang dyno. I hesitate to promise any grand results, but seriously, more fuel and a dyno session can only help.

I'm also curious to see how much faster the car goes with a good fmic. I'm working on getting the right pipes to install my big fmic on the car. The pipes I have now only work with a smim and downflow turbo.

I had another look at my datalogs. During the run where I hit 115mph I saw a max of 33 counts of knock at 7krpm in 4th gear. Timing was 17 at that point. I found that interesting since I tuned the eprom so a little knock wouldn't slow me down. Apparently a LOT of knock isn't going to slow me down, either!

where's that fmic

haha, whats up with brian, dave? is he going to give you the j-pipe?

Like i said before i have the dejon intake if your home depot racing intake doesnt fit.

Thanks, but my 3" home depot intake is working well. Brian has a Jpipe for me, but it's going to take some time to get it.

HAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

you broke your OWN rule, you jinx'ed your car, HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAH

ROFLROFLROFLROFL

and dave, I can't stand not having my car anymore, I just have to drive it. Im coming up this weekend for sure, you can stop by whenever, but if you did it sunday, you could help me tune my car before I drove down to SLO :)

you're right brian.... wtf was i thinking??

I knew i had lightweight jinxed it a few times, but i didnt realize i had blatenly done it in an open forum like that!
DOH!!!!!

and now you have 666 posts,... just go out to the garage and start cusing at it none stop for a couple hours and maybe it won't dissolve completely to dust.

Yea If I were him Id go and make a post real quick. Im not superstious but ummm we are driving dsms here. LOL

OP, the bigger FMIC should help a tune.
Cold air into your engine, without any additional pressure drop
and much less knock, which will translate to less opposing force on the pistons and more overall timing advance thru the curve due to no retardation... Yea should help a lot. :thumb:

667!!!
so i heard rumors of an 11.6, but i wont say for sure. I got my car running and i bought some header wrap today to wrap the o2 housing and downpipe. F my car though that pos!!!

I just got back from the track with a new best time. I just updated my profile with the timeslip, 11.640 @ 114.33mph!

It looks like the dyno tune at Full Function :thumb: and the bigger injectors gave me just enough power to get the job done. FYI the previous record for an AWD DSM with the 14b no nitrous WAS 11.642.
See DSMTimes.org - Home
I just barely squeeked by. But I didn't know it when I was at the track. I knew the record was 11.64x, but I didn't know what the 3rd decimal place was, or if there even was a 3rd decimal place. Was I tied for the record? Did I beat it? The suspense was killing me!

I've also included a pic of the best two dyno runs. These were done on Full Function's (FFtec.com) mustang dyno using 100 octane. I race with 116 octane. Boost hit a maximum of 20psi and dropped to 16 by 7k rpm. 286HP @ 6k rpm and 262Tq n@ 5500rpm.

F my car though that pos!!!

HAHA I do something like that everytime I launch the car, I say 'LAUNCH M-F'ER!'
It works for me :coy:

congrats dave!! way to get the job done!!!! now go put your fmic, smim and cams on and go SMASH the record!!! haha

So did you have to make many changes on the tune? What was it when you first got there? Did you play with the cam gears at all on the dyno or just afc/chip?

Sorry i couldnt make it... yesterday was my only time to get my car fixed and out of my friends driveway so i had to make it happen.

Dave- FN badass man. Your driving must be stellar! I'm sittin here laughing though...

the night I beat Leons record back in, '02 I think, he was 12.053. I went 12.052 and like you didn't know if I had truly beat the number or not, my last pass of the night was 12.022
to lock it up. But, I remember thinking exactly what you were thinking for about an hour!!

LOL!

Awesome job!!! Funny, I've provided some inspiration for you over the years and now you have returned it to me!!!

You've got me psyched tonight!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Congrats!!!
