I love my 2g N/A talon...but i've come to the final realization that everyone must come to on their own...it's slow

Being a 19 year old in college and working only weekends...I've decided to stop spending all my money on mods for the 420a and to save my money from now on and look for a 1992-1994 mitsu eclipse gsx...aiming for the big prize...well most affordable anyways.

I've been checking out the 1g's and they actually don't look that bad if you can keep it simple and clean. I would love to afford a 2g 4g63 but the resale on those are way out of my league at the moment. So if I find a 1g I will definetely try to buy that and probably sell the good ol' talon.

Just wanted to run this by you guys since you have way more experience then I do and to see if this would be a wise choice. Anything in particular I should look for? I'm definetely excited to feel the difference between my 420a and a 4g63...CAN'T WAIT!!!!!!!

I've driven both. And the difference is definetly noticable. Just be sure that you drive one before you sell your 420. Just to be sure you like it. But just remember that the 420 is going to be more reliable then the 4g. My buddy drove his 2g n/a like 20,000 and nothing had to be done but oil. He swears that it's the most reliable car he has ever had. But then again he still loves his 4g63 turbo car. I think you should just get both :)

congradulations on finally opening up your eyes. if you go into RRE's turbo section they have this little talk they give to 420a owners that i love. Good luck with the search for the Turbo AWD beast that will consume all money you have :thumb:

Just do what i did. i kept my eclipse GS and bought a laser RS-T and don't say that it isn't affordable cause im 19 work 25-35 hours a week and go to college full time and i was able to afford my car payment for the GS which is my non winter DD and my laser which once i put the clutch in will be my weekend hot rod. :thumb: their both great good luck on the hunt

Ohhhh I like the idea of having both...a 2g n/a for the ladies...and a 1g 4g63 for everything else LOL!

The talon is all payed for, I got it for 2500 so other then basic maintenance...the only reason I would sell it would be to get more money for parts.

But seeing as how 1g awd's aren't "all" that expensive maybe I will be able to swing both. It'd definetely be a nice thought to have a back up car when the 4g's off the road.

Thanks guys I appreciate it. Take it easy. :dsm:

found my 1990 eagle talon tsi awd (i recomend just going with a 6 bolt if your going to get a 1g, rather than the 7 bolt in 92+) for 2200, 90k miles, and as paul from new logics says, perfect compression, the engine is the complete opposite of the exterior, (i didnt quote cuz those might have not been his exact words, my memory sucks) anyways my cars exterior sucks, but i put up with it cuz the interior and engine make up for it... just think of something you wouldnt mind in bad condition in your 1g and look for the perfect car sin that part of it....it will save you a lot and youll have what you want...(plus pauls friend rob is going to paint it for like ~650 over the summer...)

WOOHOO!!!!!!!

1992 Eagle Talon Tsi AWD...my friend is selling his for 800-1000. So with any luck will be buying that. Not sure what condition engine is in but I want to keep it off the road for a while until I can tear it apart and build it back up. LOL! LOL! LOL!

hell yea man just make sure its build date was before the middle of the year when they switched to the seven bolt motor. Plus with the early 92 you get the 6 bolt motor and the 4 bolt rear :D What a great combo :thumb:

are you definately looking for a 1g??? if so go for it, but you can pull close to 300whp with 4 grand and tuning(obviously) out of a 420a. i know you can pull more outta the 4g but i love my 420 so thats why i dropped the cash, plus it should be fun. i agree with whomever said the 420 is a reliable car as long as you keep it tuned and check your timing belt (broke timing belt=rebuilt head) :notgood: . i havent had any major problems with my car. all im saying is dont give up so easily, im 20 and in college, working hard over summer will easily give you a nice built 420A. good luck with your purchase/decision. just as long as you keep a DSM in your life :thumb:

Honestly both will not be too expensive...well maybe the insurance ;)

As to tuning and bumping the 420. It is a path you feel you must take and I can respect that so people don't start the old 420 vs 4g debate.

^^^^i agree, only downfall to this site, 420A is bashed by 4g63, GS-T is bashed by GSX. Never fails

insurance wise, i dont know how i pulled this off but my insurance has never changed. I am 17 and i have had a Saab 9000t, Mazda RX7, 85 Volvo wagon, and now a 92 GSX. My insurance has been $85 a month and i cant wait for it to drop when i turn 18 :p

oh and let me throw in, i paid 300 a month for liability only for the last 6 months. i went under review and now i pay 200. it will go down more when a speeding ticket from 03 is dropped from my record.

that is not YOUR insurance.
thats your mum & dahds insurance

AWD!!! :talon:

Nope, something happend when i switched from the Saab to the rx7 and i got bumped off of my parents name, for 2 months i was paying $200 but after that i went back down to $85 under my name.... I still don't know how that works out as long as it does :D

Ya I can't wait until summer...3 months of working 60+ hours a week=MONEY ROFL

White96RS did you purchase everything for your turbo kit on your 420a seperate? I'm definetely gonna stick with the 420a and continue modding it out, but not gonna drop a turbo in it. I'll rely on the 4g for that.

One quick question, where can I tell on the car when it was manufactured? I want to see if it's a 6/4 bolt or a 7 bolt...everyone is telling me to skip the 7 bolt.

i bought everything seperate....and i bought everything i wanted and didnt slack off anywhere, whicih is why my kit is more expensive than others who piece their kit together. hopefull when i install this ill ba able to do a write up with plenty of pics if you decide to do it.

Well the 1992 Eagle Talon awd Tsi isn't in driveable condition at the moment. It has a blown piston and smokes really bad. What would be a reasonable price if I take it as is? He said he bought it for $1800 and i'm pretty sure he's beat on it a bit.

He also said he has an Evo III 16g turbo he sent into turbonetics to get refurbished and it's already ported. So he's waiting for that to get back and I will hopefully buy that off him seperate. Also he said he put a ton of new parts in it, new head, new brakes all around, new suspension, etc. and the car looks mint. It already has some mods like exhaust, rims, lowered, etc.

With a blown piston would it be wise to just rebuild?
