Ok I just replaced my Valve cover, I leaked oil all over my engine bay which is somewhat whats causing the smell im pretty sure. When I do a cold start i get some white smoke, more as a rev. And then it goes away, then once in a while it will start to smoke a bit again. Any ideas?

Edit: Its smoking alot more now, when idling there isnt much, but if I rev up it smokes and it comes down below 2. Smoke is white

Nope, thats next, Can i check from the intake? Do i have to take the turbo all the way off?
And really quick what oil do you recommend using?

I used Royal Purple 10w-30 on my cars. And if you want to fully inspect it you should take it off.

I just checked the turbo, I can move the fins downward a bit, every other direction there is no play but downward there is.. Ill upload a vid if itll help

i would assume that the turbo is water cooled, so it may be possible that youre tubes may be crossed? IE coolant / oil fittings... OR on a more realistic note.. the gasket inside your turbo is ...well...roached...
its the t25 turbo still right?... if so, theyre pretty cheap :D swap it out.. or an opportunity to go bigger..
but then again.. not 100% sure thats the problem..but im pretty sure.. :thumb:

He showed me a video. The turbo has a TON of up/down shaft play. Its fvcked. And his compression shows a bad HG. Problem solved

Im still hoping its just the turbo josh -_- Call me stupid but I have hope!
I still think if i had a bad HG id be overheating or something... Waitup i got that vid coming up in daylight

Edit: here it is. <iframe title="YouTube video player" width="480" height="390" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/Wa-wS65R4WE" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

To those that are saying the HG is blown.. I'm pretty sure those numbers are in the acceptable variance range. Just gives you something to know going down the road you have some wear and tear going on in that cylinder.

ooooh much better vid...i can guarantee that its the turbo now.
..."if its not broken dont fix it..." ...opportunity for upgrades!:thumb:

Yeah ive got a hint of blue in my smoke too..

HG needs replacing even though the compression test shows a somewhat acceptible number. The one that is lower is where the hg has given way... so its probably directly in front or directly behind cylinder#3... gsxdsmkinggsx wins the diagnosis prize... Too much water vapor coming from the ass to not be the HG...

What water vapor are you referring to?

He's talking about your exhaust man LOL. It doesnt do that for no reason.

Im just making sure, Because I had someone ask me about the water flowing down the driveway.

Btw, on the facebook chat someone asked if I was blowing a bit of blue smoke, what does blue smoke mean?

What is happening is your motor oil is leaking past your piston rings and getting into the engine cylinder and mixing with your fuel and ultimately burning along with the gas. Thus your blue smoke.

Blue smoke is burning oil. Just for kicks, you dont have too much oil in there do you. It would smoke like crazy under load. I have done that before. Car had a decent oil leak and the oil light kicked on so i jumped on adding like 2-3 quarts just in case, but the oil light wasnt on for low oil so i way overfilled it without checking. Started smoking. Anyways i pulled 10 qts out of that car.

Anyways. I was in the same boat as you. Good number. Also had a brand new HG job done. I was blowing smoke like crazy. Did have milky oil too. Everybody swore up and down, HG HG HG head gasket, its the ONLY place oil and coolent could mix. Never possible in a MHI or Garrett turbo. Either way, my t25 wasnt noticably cracked but it sure enough was my turbo. A good sign it is your turbo, you can hear the coolent boiling and mixing in the exhaust housing/ CRHA.

Blew white sweet smelling smoke myself before...compression check was ok, no oil in my coolant, no coolant in my oil...pulled the turbo (had shaft play and wanted to upgrade anyways) got an evo3 from extremepsi and never blew smoke again...

Finally got the new turbo in.. Started her up.. no smoke for about a minute, then it started again..

How many miles are on the motor it could be a hg but with numbers that high i highly doubt it maybe try cleaning it out sometimes it takes a good 30 minutes to an hour to clean out all the shit in the exhaust and cat. just run it and see if the smoke starts to clear

a little more than 90k Original Miles.. I ran it just until it got to running temp, Do you think i should run it longer?
