Smoke+Unpleasant smell from my exhaust

Ok I just replaced my Valve cover, I leaked oil all over my engine bay which is somewhat whats causing the smell im pretty sure. When I do a cold start i get some white smoke, more as a rev. And then it goes away, then once in a while it will start to smoke a bit again. Any ideas?

Edit: Its smoking alot more now, when idling there isnt much, but if I rev up it smokes and it comes down below 2. Smoke is white

what color is the smoke blue is oil and white is moisture (water or coolant if its excesssive) hope this helps

And usually white smoke means your burning coolant or there is moisture somewhere it shouldnt be.

I see you said its getting worse. Sounds to me like a blown headgasket man. You need to do a compression test.

I'd start with a compression check asap.

And I'm assuming this is smoking via the exhaust right?

Could the weight of oil I used matter at all?

No man. At this point the weight of your oil doesnt matter anymore.. Do a compression test and read me back the numbers.
 
Alright Ill do it as soon as I can
Tomrrow Im gonna swap out my coolant, and check the turbo

I'm almost 100% positive your turbo couldn't blow coolant like that unless the center housing was cracked.

What should I check for besides shaft play?

And Im doing an Oil change today, what weight would you guys recommend?
 
You need to do a compression check before anything else.
Shaft play wouldn't have anything to do with coolant :)
 
i mean for checking if the turbo is bad... and i dont have a compression tester ATM

Instead of doing that oil change take the $30 and get a cheap compression tester. Most likely you have a popped head gasket and you'll have to change the oil after you replace the gasket anyways.

I wouldn't recommend driving it. You should definitely check your oil to see if its contaminated or higher than usual though.
 
im not driving it, and i need an oil change is why i was gonna do it. good news is i found a friend who has a compression tester

As far as the turbo goes Id be willing to bet if the center housing was indeed cracked you'd have some visual indicator of such with the car running (i.e. smoking in the area of the turbo or a blatant leak from such).

But all that turbo stuff is irrelevant since it has a very small chance of causing your problem which is most likely due to a failed headgasket.. which was with the compression check comment so early in your thread.
 
The turbo isnt your problem man. Thats coolant. Its more than likely your head gasket.

ive got all my money on the head gasket but definitely check your oil and do a compression test
 
If the compression test comes out good, does that rule out Head gasket?
