My friend has a fp green with a 1g intake manifold on pump gas only like 20psi. Now if he still on pump gas maybe like 24psi would a smim provide more horsepower gain over the 1g intake manifold? Or would the 1g intake manifold be sufficient enough? If so would he get the "race" or "street" smim? Would this http://www.streettunedmotorsports.com/parts/jmf_1g_dsm_street_intake_manifold.htm flow better then the stock 1g intake manifold? Or would the http://www.streettunedmotorsports.com/parts/jmf_1g_dsm_race_intake_manifold.htm then the street one. Remeber this is only a fp green like 24psi on pump gas, he is just looking to get a little more power out of his setup. He is running a 1g n/t throttle body too.

Nah he only revs to 7k stock head, so looks like probably just still with stock 1g intake manifold unless it's proven to get like extra 20hp with another intake manifold then that would be worth it to him. It's not the horserpower number they can make, we are looking for if increaes flow and yield more power with a smim apose from the stock 1g will give more horsepower.

Intake manifold choice should be based on power band you are looking for. If you are out of turbo at 7k whether its compressor limited or turbine limited.. pick your VE mods accordingly (Cam/Intake/Exhaust)

Subscribed for more info..
my buddy has a 98 gst he just put a FP green on and im running a Red on my 90 TSI both will be running around 20-25 psi on pump gas...

What more do you need? That's it. Like landspeed-dsm stated smim reflects on the powerband/ turbo. Any turbo as a 20g or smaller a smim will not see any noticeable gains.

don't really need more info i was must subscribing to see if someone would pop in with some dyno pulls or something showing the differences. I will end up running a SMIM when i build a motor for my car as i want to rev closer to 9 or 10k at that point.

I understand that the stock ones flow good but that won't cut it for me. I want to know from the people out there that have a decent smim over the stock ones that noticed some gains. For me and a couple other people to the looks of it information would be worth it. If I was able to get around 20+whp from adding a smim over the stock intake manifold I would totally get one. I would also love to see dyno sheets from people running around the fp green turbo range that have also purchased a smim see what power there throwing down. On a last note these intake manifold are about $500 so ya I would like alot more info before wasting $500 and not see any gains.

If you are just looking for better airflow then I would highly recommend an EvoIII Manifold.

The runners are nearly half the lenght of a stock 1G ITM. :thumb:

Sry, I did not see that you are talking about a 1G head. So that doesn't work for your friend.

Noticeable difference on a s20g here. It seems to have a bit more lag down low but really picked up in the top end probably more so because of the 272 cams and Throttlebodys.com modded NT TB, I'm on stock springs at the moment so I'm only revving to 7.5-8k. Is it worth the money? It was to me, but I have no hard numbers to prove anything.

Why not? If the're not going beyond 7k.. there is really no reason to upgrade. Especially with only an FP Green and a stock head.

Nothing out there makes more power under 6500 rpms than the stock manifold. A smim will slow some of the power drop off up top on a mid sized turbo, and along with the right cams, will allow large turbos to have peak power into the 8000+ range.

Ok thanks now we talking my talk, looks like the stock one it is for this setup thank you all for the extra input much appreciated.
