I did some searching but fell a little short handed. Let's say I am wanting to run ~300WHP, would a FMIC be a must, or would a Dejon SMIC or even a Supra SMIC do the job? Also, my FWD clanker is needing some work. Should I dish out the dough on the FWD, or find an AWD?:dsm:

Bull$hit. Garry Marsh tunes my car at Speed Injection in Hallandale, FL. In summer heat we consistently pull numbers that vary within 10 whp, allowing 5 min rests. This is with 8 to 10 pulls on the dyno per hour. One pull you say? Ridiculous. My last tune gained power per pull due to tuning adjustment
^^ 242 WHP

Also the 2G SMIC are a better design than the 1Gs :dsm:

thick I/C like supras sure have heatsoak problems

get a 2G I/C or an aftermarket aluminium FMIC
u wont go wrong , make sure it aint too big and it aint too small either
follow ## application and u will enjoy them
will be even better if u get a BAR & Plate intercooler, it flow much better than the 2G tube n fins

i run 301bhp on stock E-III i/c , it ran fine , but then after switching to a bar n plate with similar size , it was even greater

Garry Marsh sucks at tuning your car. You're making like 40 less crank HP than me and you wonder why your's doesn't heat soak as fast.

But still you proved my point. "Allowing 5 minute rests" .... no kidding. Because when I said "one pull", I meant that its a disposable IC that you throw out after you make a pull.:tease: That's exactly what I meant, you need to let the thing cool off before you can make another pull. Half way through 3rd gear, its baked, plain and simple.

you know i may be a newb but in all fairness when you are dyno testing you aren't efficently running your car because you aren't getting the air flow to your i/c and your radiator like you would at the track or on the street, so you could be achieving more hp on the track then on the dyno. and since you aren't getting the right amount of air flow you will heat soak a smic on the dyno. not to say that it wouldn't heat soak at the track or on the street it will just do it faster on a dyno. theres my 2 cents:dsm:

Very true. I ran my RRE Griffin Top/Bottom FMIC at a local dyno and barely squeezed out 280WHP before heatsoak-induced knock made me richen the AFRs up just to finish a run.

Immediately afterwards at the track (with alot of fuel taken out), I ran MPHs indicative to ~350WHP and NO KNOCK. So yes, a squirrel cage fan is not a substitute to the airflow of a 100+ MPH pass at the track.

As for the SMIM, my stock 1G religiously heatsoaked at 18psi on my 16G (got a ton of old datalogs to support it). It's a 4psi restriction at 16psi (according to Dejon Tools site) which equates to running 20psi at the compressor to maintain 16psi at the manifold. That combined with the anemic size and poor exposure to fresh air makes it vastly inefficient for boost levels much over stock.

Remember, heatsoak is the inability of the intercooler to effectively transfer heat. A small intercooler may be ok for a few seconds cooling 300F air passing thru it. But for extended periods, repeated thru several gear changes (as in 1/4 mile) , the core just wont' be able to keep up.

So moral to the story, is that a big hugger FMIC is great for Dyno queens, but not absolutely necessary for a 1/4 mile car with a small-mid sized turbo and anything is better than the stock SMIC at boost levels > stock :dsm:

I have a Supra SMIC installed and it was a pretty notticeable improvement. Apart from the lower temps, the turbo spools soner and faster as it flows a lot more than the stock one.

But as here in Spain we can use 91 gas as much, a FMIC will work much better.
Mayube on the future i'll replace the side mount one.

Good post DSM90AWD (and guy quoted)! So in light of that, what small-moderate sized FMIC's would you recommend? Everything I find is some enormous race core. I just want to be able to make 1 run down the track without heatsoaking and I don't want to overheat my car all summer on the street.

I'm running 12.5 on a Small16G with a Supra Side Mount. With more improvement. Going to track this Friday to hit 11.99 :thumb:

I decided on that extreme intercoolers 7" kit. For the price difference it will be worth it to get a short route front mount, that will let me run a cold air intake also. I found a few old posts about it and everyone had only good things to say.:thumb:
