Hey everyone,

I have a small leak of oil and transmission fluid in the exact same spot in my garage from my 1999 Eclipse GS. It seems to be coming from the bell housing/ plate that covers the flywheel at the bottom of the transmission. At first I thought it was the rear main seal because of the oil but looking at the spot there is definitely transmission fluid. I replaced the rear main seal when I was doing my rebuild

Has anyone else experienced this issue or know what it could be?

Thanks!

Do you have an automatic or a manual transmission?

If it's an automatic and its definitly transmission fluid coming from the inspection cover I would guess its the torque converter shaft seal.

If its a manual with a leak of transmission fluid in that area would say input shaft seal.

So I used a borescope to see if the input seal was leaking and it is dry in the bell housing. Also nothing is leaking from my axle seals. I tightened down all the bell housing bolts again cause maybe it has to do with that. Anything else it could possibly be?

im going to monitor it over the next few days. Thanks for the suggestions guys.

So the inside of your belhousing is completely dry? That would rule out the rear main as well. Sounds like it could be the oil pressure sensor (OPS) which is on the backside if the block below the intake manifold, not too far from the trans and could be running down there.

But since you said it looks like transmission fluid. Has the trans ever been rebuilt? There's no gasket where the belhousing attaches to the main trans, if the wrong sealant was used or not enough of it there will be a leak. How large of a leak is it? The amount it leaks would give a better idea if it's leaking from the top, the sides or the bottom. You also mentioned the flywheel so I can assume it's the manual NVT-350.

So I thought it was the oil sending sensor cause I have the turbo feed line coming from there but I made sure it was on extra tight and it is also dry. I do have a NVT-350, I did open the transmission to fix the speedometer sensor plastic gear that came loose. I pretty sure I used enough sealant. The leak is only a few drops (3-4) every 24 hours.
