I have a few things to replace on my car, the drivers side upper and lower straight control arms, reboot the drivers side CV axle, and now it seems the clutch as well. The car will drive, and as long as I keep it under 4k rpm the clutch doesn't slip, so I'm pretty much stuck going granny style, easy on the gas, don't get on it to pass anyone, etc.
What happened with the clutch is, a couple weeks ago I was driving down the road, when I lost 2nd gear. 1st gear was really loose, and all the others felt sloppy as well. I was still able to get into everything but 2nd, and limp my way to where I was going... which was school to take a final exam, needless to say I did horrible on the exam because all I could think about was how much I hate my car,
. When I was done with the exam I went back to the car, and it wouldn't start. Popped the hood open to find my positive battery cable had slipped off... dammit. While under there I noticed my shift cable bracket seemed to have broke off... at least it wasn't a broken shift cable like I thought.
I have AAA and considered getting it towed home, but my day had already turned to shit and didn't feel like waiting for the tow truck, so I decided to take it easy and get home on my own. I found on city streets in bad weather, this is harder than I thought it would be. Shifting from 1st to 3rd, while getting the revs high enough to keep going at a decent pace was pretty annoying. Needless to say, with my carelessness, and frustration, I pretty much glazed over the clutch,
. If I had just got the damn tow, I wouldn't have this problem right now. On the bright side, after I got home, I found the bracket hadn't broke off, but the bolts just fell out... and even better, the bolts fell out, and were still on the transmission! Such an easy fix allowed me to find the slipping clutch though.
Here's the thing though, I've known for a while I've needed to replace these control arms, and the CV boot just busted open and got goo all over the place. I've had plans to change these on the 1st when I got paid, and take the CV axle in to get rebuilt. I wasn't planning on buying a new clutch, and since I have to replace it, I am just going to go with an ACT stage 2 or something, anything better than stock, and replace the flywheel with a light weight unit. Unfortunately I can't afford that right now though until my pay day after this next one, so how bad is it for me to drive on the clutch as is as long as I take it easy like I have been? The car has been parked for the past couple weeks since I'm out of school for winter break, and I've only driven it a couple times since the clutch issue started, but I won't have it fixed before school starts on the 11th.
