i just got my two 10inch mishimoto slim fans in. the come with the shroud so its an easy bolt on. but im stuck on the wiring.

i have an extra set of rad and a/c fans so i want to cut the harness off them and splice them onto the ends of the slim fan wiring. (so i can just use the oem plugs) and i want to have the a/c fan come on when the rad fan comes on. my a/c is frozen and has no belt right now but maybe in the future i might fix it. this shouldnt hurt though right?

that is how i did mine looks alot cleaner and no overheating even without a/c fan. i think if i remeber right the radiator fan wire colors are white-black,and white-blue are positive +. colors black and blue-green are negatives -.
For the condesor side the colors are blue, and blue-white for positive+. The colors are blue-black, and black for negative _

Are you looing to wire the fans together so they come on at the same time to a switch inside the car? If so, I actually did that in my car and have a writeup about it with pics if you need it.

I didnt use the wires coming off the fans, I used the fan relays in the fuse box actually. Let me know. Good Luck :thumb:

I'm also interested in how to make both fans working when main fan is ON and only A/C fan working when A/C is ON and main fan is OFF...

im trying to get the a/c fan to go on with the rad fan. i dont want to have to worry about manually turning it on though. doing this for better cooling.

my wire colors are:
a/c i think (metal fan) - blue. blue with black strip. black. black with white stripe.
rad i think (plastic) - black. blue. green. yellow.
the slim fans - black. blue.

Ok, this is what I know about them. As to which wire is hot, it matters to whether what you have the two stock 3 speed fans (yes they are actually 3 speeds - not 2) and wiring or some aftermarket single speed fans which may have changed the wiring.

If stock:
(Note: the wire names are my own where hi/lo corresponds to the fan relay's hi/low name.)

Passenger side (radiator) fan wires are:
lo positive (+12V) = white/black (white with black stripe)
lo negative (goes to ground) = black
hi positive (+12V) = white/blue
hi negative (goes to ground on M/T, switched on/off to ground by the 5th radiator fan relay LO2 on A/T) = blue/green

Driver side (A/C) fan wires are:
lo positive (+12V) = blue
lo negative (goes to ground) = blue/black
hi positive (+12V) = blue/white
hi negative (goes to ground) = black

Interesting note: The stock turbo 2g fans have 3 speeds (not counting off) but only 2 speeds are used (why many people call them or think they are a two speed fan). M/T uses off, medium, and high on the radiator fan. A/T uses off, low, and high on the radiator fan. Both use off, medium, and high on the A/C fan. The ECU controls the speeds based on engine water temp, vehicle speed, and whether A/C is on/off.

The speeds are not obtained by voltage on a unique specific wire pair but rather voltage on wire combinations. Thus my wire names and their relay names are somewhat misleading. Low speed is voltage on one positive wire (either lo positive or hi positive) and one negative wire (either lo negative or hi negative) although most 2g dsm's use lo positive and lo negative. Medium speed is either voltage on two positive wires and one negative wire OR voltage on one positive wire and two negative wires (most 2g dsm's use the latter). High speed is voltage on both positive wires and both negative wires.

When people substitute a single speed after market fan they tie the positives together and the negatives together so it is always either off or on high speed.

If you want both fans to kick on as your radiator fans does. I am sure there is some way to wire the AC fan into the radiator fans wiring and it would kick on as the radiator fans does and not just for the AC. I hope the wiring colours help you out.

so if im reading this right i should be all set if i take the black with white stripe and twist it with the blue. then splice it to the blue on the slim fan. and take the black with the stripe and twist it with the blue with black stripe. (this is for the drivers side)

I wont tell you how to wire anything in your car as I dont want something to happen and it be something I told you. You know what I mean?

But I would think if you wired the thing up like you said; as long as you get the + & - right, both fans should come on when the radiator fan normally would come on as they are wired in series with each other now. Stands to reason if one comes on and the other is wired into it, it should come on at the same time.

i understand. im just having trouble figuring out which are positive and neg. looking at the plug there are 4 pins. would you kno which are pos and which are neg? after figuring that out id be done in about 5 min.

im doing it this way so i can just plug it in and be done. the easiest way seems to put the 2 pos from the slim fans together and the 2 neg together and then splice them into the harness as ive shown so itll either all be on or nothing will be.

Yeah, that seems to be the easiest way to do it for what you are looking to do for sure. I do not know the + & - inside the plugs....But You could just splice into the wires after the plugs and get the same deal. Just use those trick wire splicers that the host wire goes completely through and then you just stick the splice wire into the the side and clamp it down. I hope you know what splicers I am talking about  That should do the trick as well I would think. Sorry I couldnt be of anymore help on that one man.

wire taps is what i think you mean. im using the plugs so incase i need to take the fans out.

Yes, thats them. But I see what yo are saying though with the plugs. Like I said, sorry I cant help with the + & - negative with the plugs. Hopefully we have helped you out some in this project. Good luck man :thumb:

i didn't get to try this because i had work but i was thinking... will there be enough power to support both fans wired on the same plug?? the Mishimoto fan's specs are:
Current: ~6.8A
Voltage: 12V
i may have to run a bigger fuse.

i found the colors for the rad fan to plug on a different thread. (Blue-green AND Black wires to the fan's ground. White-black AND White-blue wires to the fan's power wire.)

BTW couldn't it be too much cooling? When sensor sees it's too hot and switch fans ON they work as long as relay gives power, but not until sensor sees temperature is OK and switch it OFF, right? :|
And don't you think it would be a good idea to put those 2 x 10" fans in the front (to push air inside) before A/C radiator and free a lot of space for turbos, etc.? :)

im sure one ten would be good enough to cool it but i want to have both. and yea they will be activated by the sensor.
and i thought about that but there should be enough room for the turbo seeing how these are half the size and weight. the shroud blocks off heat coming through the area that the fans do not cover. so only cool air comes through the fans.

Might have been said already? But an electric motor will operate like a speaker +or- will either operate as an air "pusher" or "puller" or in and out of phase (sp). So don't worry about +and- as much just make sure if the fans are on the engine side of the radiator they're going to be pulling air. If that's the case then the fans are wired correctly.

alrite, im trying to stay up with this. Im on the same page as him and confused. I put two aftermarket fans on my radiator. There is a black and blue wire for each fan motor. Theres a electric fan hook up coming from the passenger side that is for the stock radiator fan. I cut off the stock fan female end from the stock fan and it has yellow, blue, green, black. How do i hook those 4 wires up to the 2 fan motor wires. I dont want to have to do it manually or have any bullshit with the AC fan. I want them to come on when the sensor sends the signal to put them on...Help would be appreciated. Thanks!

I copied this from another thread but here you go this all you need to know to wire your aftermarket fans on a 2g:

USING HARNESS SIDE WIRES OF FAN CONNECTOR:

For driver's side fan:
Connect the following together:
1. Original fan harness connector's blue/white (ie. blue with white stripe) wire with
2. original fan harness connector's blue wire with
3. new fan's + wire (usually non-black)
Also connect the following together:
1. Original fan harness connector's black wire with
2. original fan harness connector's blue/black wire with
3. new fan's - wire (usually black)

For passenger's side fan:
Connect the following together:
1. Original fan harness connector's white/black wire with
2. original fan harness connector's white/blue wire with
3. new fan's + wire (usually non-black)
Also connect the following together:
1. Original fan harness connector's black wire with
2. original fan harness connector's blue/green wire with
3. new fan's - wire (usually black)

USING FAN SIDE WIRES OF "ORIGINAL FAN" CONNECTOR:

For driver's side fan:
Connect the following together:
1. Original fan harness connector's blue/black wire with
2. original fan harness connector's blue wire with
3. new fan's + wire (usually non-black)
Also connect the following together:
1. Original fan harness connector's black wire with
2. original fan harness connector's black/white wire with
3. new fan's - wire (usually black)

For passenger's side fan:
Connect the following together:
1. Original fan harness connector's blue wire with
2. original fan harness connector's green wire with
3. new fan's + wire (usually non-black)
Also connect the following together:
1. Original fan harness connector's black wire with
2. original fan harness connector's yellow wire with
3. new fan's - wire (usually black)

I have the Mishimoto 10" Fan and shroud kit and it works great. I used this info to wire my fans. The shroud didn't fit perfectly but I got it to fit.

Ok, so I have 2 14" slim fans installed the same way as the wiring above says.

Here's my problem.

Key on engine off-a/c turned on- driver side fan runs
a/c turned off- neither fans run
Key on engine running-a/c turned off-neither fan runs
a/c turned on- both fans run
And the passenger fan does not come on when the engine reaches operating temp

Anyone have any pointers???
