well i wanna start savin up for a set of 15" rims an slicks. My question is what kind of slick should i get and what size?
BTW i have 1992 talon tsi FWD

Get either 26 x 8.5/9 x 15 or 24.5 x 8.5 x 15 ( The 24.5's are my preffered option )

The sizes are as follows

the first number is how tall the tire is..i.e. 26 inches tall or 24.5 inches tall

the second number is how wide the tire is depending on the make the heights and rim sizes i've listed are usually available in 8.5 inches wide and sometimes 9 inches wide...

the third number is simply the rim size it fits...

MY favorite slicks are M&H racemasters (there use to be different compounds, i liked the "D" ) If you can't get or afford those get some Mickey Thompsons, they are better than drag radials, but just don't grip like the M&H's do

As far as what size to get, i would start with the 24.5, the 26 can help if you're way over powering the 24.5's, but the larger tire will make the gap between gears larger, but give you slightly more speed per gear.. I like the 24.5's (i think that's the same height as OEM rim/tire combo roughly)

DO NOT get 22 inch tall slicks... I tried them once and my car was dragging the front bumper when i got on the brakes... they really brought the gears in tight, but you'd have to raise your car to not scrape with them ( at least on a factory suspension 2G i was scrapin when i used them)

Also, make sure to get longer studs, after the rim is on, the studs must protruse at least 3/4 of the way through the lug nut ( that's NHRA rule IIRC ) But the main reason i say to get longer and stronger studs is that i've straight bent mine launching, and also DO NOT but steel wheels and put slicks on them with the little acorn nuts used on steel wheels.. I did this once and sheared several lugs off the front end (i'm FWD)

That should be enough info to get you out there and let you decide what you want to do after that...

DR's are better for RWD/AWD. i think youll have more of a chance of breaking stuff with DR's.

Yes & know, DR's can work great on fwds as well depending on the goals & power levels, etc. It also depends on tire construction, the Hoosier DR's I ran were a nylon belted construction so much softer then a typical street tire or other drag radials.

Unless your making atleast 400whp don't think about the 26" tall tires. They take alot harder launch to get out of the hole without bogging & like mentioned it makes the gears ratios longer, which isn't ideal for fwd's untill you start making some good power, since our ratios are already long to start with.

I'm selling my Hoosier DR's/rims (will be awd this year) but the cost of shipping to you would probably make it not worth it.

ooo ok cool i was just lookin for a good street tire that will hold up a lil better than my tires.... so far my goal is low to mid 13's an iam gonna try it on the stock turbo :) LOL should be easy
