alright,
i have a 95 Gst, with about 134thousand,
and i figure the motor will go soon.
my plan after the motor goes is to put a 6bolt in or rebuild the 7bolt motor
so heres my "Q" i plan on doing alot of work to it after the motor goes on the fresh motor i want to be able to run around 12s 1/4mile, so is it worth making a 7bolt fast? will it not hold as much hors power as the 6bolt? and bc i really would like to just rebuild my 7bolt,
if it would be worth it,
how much does a 6bolt swap normally run? what all do i have to change??
thanks,

What makes you think your motor is going to die soon? If you are serious about this, I would recommend the 6-bolt swap. There really isn't a whole lot more to do with the 6-bolt over installing a 7-bolt. As far as costs, if you are just building with stock parts, it shouldn't really cost any more than rebuilding a 7-bolt. I got my 6-bolt complete short-block for $200 and sold all the internals for about $100, and sold my 7-bolt shortblock for another $100 so I came out even there. For the 1g head($100 +shipping), I actually sold my 2g one for $50 more than I bought the 1g one for. Total stock build cost if you can find prices about what I paid shouldn't be more than a couple hundred if you do the swap yourself.

If you want to use forged internals, it wont' cost more to build up a 6-bolt over a 7-bolt. If your goal is for mid 12s, you should be fine with 2g pistons on 1g rods to save money. Good combo and an excellent set-up for the money. If you get 1g rods in your block, that would be great otherwise you could pick some up for around $50 and use your stock pistons. If you want that path, the 1g rods will need a tiny bit of machining...this link will explain what needs to be done.

Am in the process of doing this now and i can tell you its not being cheap LOL. But then again am somewhat redoing my setup again hence new parts that cost $$

Guys are making 400-450hp on their 7 bolts without any problems, this is with a good tune of course. There's also a few that are making over 500hp. 12's should be no problem with a stock 7 bolt. The only drawback is you take your chances with getting crankwalk.

Yup usually the most reliable HP with the 7bolt is around 400-50hp with a very good tune. I have heard of people with more than that but they blew the block after a few passes at the track.

I would run your 7 bolt untill it dies, then go ahead with the swap and be done. Just because high milage doesn't make it prone to die soon. Some pople are pushing past 200k on their engines, it's all about the mantinance. Your engine may be in great condition. The swap can go fairly cheap if you look around. I would say if you really want to swap in the future start looking for cheap parts now. That's probably the hardest part.
