Well I bought a 20g with a tdo6h housing thats set up for a external wastgate I have a new exhaust housing I could swap on it but since I need to buy a manifold should I just get a external manifold whats the pros and cons?

im not sure there are many 20g's with internal gates, although there is a trick to mount an internal gate onto a 20g compressor housing on www.vfaq.com , i would recommend the external because it will prevent boost creep and most cases prevent boost spike as well.

hope this helps

Externals typically offer better control and help eliminate boost creep as compression correctly mentioned, however it comes at the expense of having to buy a gate, dump, and manifold that will accept it. Many people have the mentality that internal gates are unreliable on larger turbos, however my good friend Mark Swietnowski (sweet97) ran an HX-35/40 on an AGP internal and had rock solid boot at any setting.

I have plans to run a TD06 20G as well and I'll stick with an internal. It's your call, but don't get the impression that the turbo is too large to run with an internal since that's not the case. Either way will work, just do what fits your budget.

Hope that helps,

Andy

Right, i myself will also stick with internally gated turbo's because i have an aftermarket header and o2 housing that i really dont plan on getting rid of, the turbo options for internally gated turbo's isnt as wide as the externally gated turbo's unless you want to pay 125-200$ extra, so keep in mind if you ever want to go to a larger turbo you may want to consider external.

A friend of mine ran his 20g with an internal wastegate, and had a problem with boost creep when he went past 16 or 17 lbs, so he went with an external wastegate, and never had a problem since, so i would highly recommend the external since you have the option

okay so I can come off of the the gate and just dump the air out? Im thinking im going with the manifold off of ebay had one before it got stolen worked great. with a 40mm tial wastgate what spring will I have to run in the wastegate for say 22 to 25lbs?
