Short to ignition...

So it all started last year when I got my 95 TSi and there was smoke coming from the steering wheel. Took a look at it and the wires use to hook up the turbo timer were melted... Put the wires back to stock and car was fine for a while. Now sometimes when I drive the car cuts off. But if I bump the Steering Columns the power comes back and the car runs lls... So I look under it again and the wires going to it look like there shot... Does anyone know a part number of where can I find that connector or how to replace it? Its killing my battery... I'm only getting power to the lights and I head the beeping when the keys in the ignition... Starter is working... Thanks...

I found out that is a turbo timer wiring harness part...

Did you use that specific harness?

I ghetto rigged my harness, with different wires, which caused it to burn out. But then I went and got the propper harness, and it was fine after that,

Yeah it was that one but still no luck after the rewire... I'm down to the translator or coils...

best thing would be to grab that sub harness from a junk yard or on ebay orsomething and replace it as a whole. once wiring is fried its very difficult to re insulate it for any longevitly unless you indivisdually wrap each wire. which would be very time consuming.

i was hoping that you maybe had the same issue as me. mine just doesnt shut off when i switch the ignition from on to accessory. I have to completely shut the car off in order for it to shut off. im wondering if my ignition switch is bad.

Sounds like the ignition switch itself
