looking for an eagle talon wondering what i should be looking for,

want to have a strong car that can handle boost, what year should i be looking for,
i plan on rebuilding the engine, what is the most economical way to go on buying a car? project, stock, piece together........or??????

thanks if you have any other input that would be great thanks

just try to find a clean, awd, low mileage, VIRGIN, Eclipse/talon/laser TURBO. 1992 Plymouth Laser AWD's are rare but damn they are sexy

92 awd I believe is the best year all around. Still have the 6 bolt block, the better tranny, and a 4 bolt rear. But like EclipticalGS said, try to find a low mile stock car that hasn't already been beat on and build it the way you want it. You can get it down in the 7s (1/8th mile) fairly easy and cheap and still have a reliable daily driver and never have to open up the motor. Ebay and Craigslist are both a good place to start looking.

If I didn't already own my 90 AWD. I would look into a 92-94 AWD for many of the reasons that have been mentioned already - better bottom end, stronger rear end, upgraded brakes, etc.. Another thing to consider is parts - finding new body parts for a 90-91 is almost impossible. Good luck with your search - btw your local craigslist is a great source to find one.

If you rebuild the engine, then a 1g 6-bolt AWD, but if you do a total build then 2g awd for sure, a built 7-bolt is superior to a 6-bolt in every way.

The late 91, early 92 is the strongest gearset.

I got a stock 1991 eagle talon tsi AWD, best purchase. I love the feeling of the stock set up, just enough power for a DD.

If you are going to modify your car, stay with the 4g63 block if you can, I know the non-turbo 2g come with the 420a, even though its been proven to make power, a lot of aftermarket is for the 4g63 and it could make you life easier.

I have never had a problem with a 7 bolt block but they are prone to crankwalk.

Make sure you try to find a car with maintenance schedules and not abused. Its hard, but that extra for the cleanness and proper maintenance can save you money down the road.

AWD rocks, its the best in any weather condition. I have no problems with the east coast winters, and the bogus weather we have here in jersey. But if you are making a street racer, maybe FWD is the path you should take. Weighs a lot less, no transfercase or rear.

goodluck

totally awd man. i got me a winner when i got my laser rst for 1000 bucks LOL. it is clean, (virgin). i got it from a guy that sold it because he had kids and it was a pain to get the car seat on and off LOL. but ya the lasers ARE rare. i have seen only ONE here in colorado besides mine. lots of talons and eclipses tho. but ya deffenetly get a 92-94 tho. better looking IMO. oh and any 94 awd (or 93 also im not sure) will come with the dual piston caliper wich is a bigger brake system. look for the 6/4 combo, grat setup.

thanks for all the replys, i think ill be looking for a 92-94, seems to have strong parts and great for a build, another question, my father owns a diesel shop and has TONS of those turbos they are large but will they still work?

Look for a '91 AWD. 4-bolt rear with strong transmission. 6-bolt engine is more reliable than 7-bolt. And, I prefer the body styling of the 1Ga to the 1Gb. Flip up headlights look better than those cloudy plastic bulbs that the 1Gb got.

my first talon i bought. was a 1990 awd tsi talon LOVED IT.. and I loved the fact even more that I hunted for a 1990 awd tsi talon parts car.. well worth it to look around and don't get a boner at the first talon you see

buy mine.. its not a virgin, highly modded, low kilometers, actually only like 65xxx kilometers..

last time i checked, we go by miles, not kilometers LOL but low miles none the less

personally id shoot for a 97 - 99 gsx or gst depending on how much hsp your goals are

easier to find a "virgin" and i personally like the body styles more then the 1gs

good luck with your choice

I know someone with a VERY VERY VERY clean 99 GSX with 34K miles for sale:D

yeah, see my car didn't come with emissions, and didn't come with automatic seatbelts. the previous owner of my car purchased the car out of canada. Mine is a true CDM, :hellyeah:.
