...while still being streetable. I've come to the conclusion that I want to rebuild the motor on my laser because it is making an annoying ticking noise. Comes to find out one of the oil rings on piston #1 was off the ringland (don't ask me how). Either way, I'm deciding to shoot for high horsepower numbers while keeping it somewhat streetable. No this will not be my daily driver so there isn't much of a worry of keeping it "street" legal.

I want to stick with the 2.0l motor and build it, big turbo, and spray it. I really have no idea where to begin so I'm asking you guys for some help. I pretty much need help from the bearings, to turbo, to everything. Let me know what you guys have in mind for a monster!

Start with a horsepower or ET goal first and then hit the Dyno and Track Times page (under the Bragging Rights link) to see what others are running. As of right now your question is way too general and needs to be more specific before anyone can help you.

Cheers,

Andy

Good idea, I was thinking of doing that but just wanted to get a little thread started to get some ideas. Like I said, I want to be able to push the motor hard, and not worry about blowing the block to smitherenes. I just want a high revving, built motor, that I can throw lots of boost, and spray it.

I'm looking of around 500+ awhp on/off spray if that gives any help :D

Check out the vendors page and start calling the vendors that specialize in building engines.

For those goals you are going to have a long and expensive road ahead of you. I would recommend you call a engine company......Slowboy, FFWD, JAM, Bushur, etc. and have them build you a motor for that goal. They can also give you an idea of the supporting mods you will need. Start reading......knowledge is going to be your best friend.

I've been doing tons of reading, talking to several local (very well trusted) DSM and machine shops here in St. Louis as well. I'm thinking a solid combination of:

Bottom end:
Manley Pistons/Scat rods (8.5:1 compression for spray and high boost)
ACL Bearings
ARP Hardware all around
3 layer cometic headgasket

Top end:
Brian Crower 280/280 cams, valve springs, titanium retainers
port matched intake/exhaust (head work)
2g exhaust manifold heavily ported
FP3052
2.5" vband dumped before the oil pan
38mm Tial wastegate, dumped with exhaust
SMIM (JMfab/Magnus) bunged for nitrous lines
BBK 75mm throttle body
Maf-t blow thru setup
850cc Injectors
TT Supra Fuel pump rewired
DSMlink
Aftermarket FPR setup (ss lines from rail-regulator)
Nitrous (50 wet shot, direct port)

I'm sure I'm missing a ton of stuff, but this is just a little list I have to start me somewhere.

:tease: COMETIC :notgood: :nono: Don't even bother, it's like shooting an arrow in the air and trying to catch it, not worth the risk. I'd reccomend ARP studs and mitsu (ralliart) mls (multi layered steel) headgasket. Ask topstreet on here about boost leaks with the cometics! WTF

Really? Any links to the listed headgasket? I also reconsidered the rod setup I wanted. Going to go with some Carrillo I-Beam rods from sbr or something. They are supposedly good for 700 out of the box, which is more than enough for the setup I want.

Myself and many other people use the Cometic at high boost levels with great results. Most leaks are due to improper installation.

I would recomend o-ringing the head. That will lay to rest any pushing coolant concerns as long as you have propper prep work done. I would also say if you really want ot switch TBs, then get a q45 unit and a mathcing manifold. Its larger, sturdier and cheaper than a quality 75mm unit.

You would need an intake manifold flanged for it. The infiniti TPS in electronically compatible with outr TPS so you can wire in the infiinit unit. You need to enlarge the throttle cable attachment on the TB, and a non cruise throttle cable. I also have to ziptie, or re-route my heater hose as it interferes with the linkage preventing full travel. Pretty basic stuff.

So I'm guessing just a little bit of extra work? That should be no problem. With the fuel situation, would you recommend going with a full SS line from the tank-fpr, or just rail-fpr? I've had several people tell me rail-fpr, and 0 who have said tank-fpr.

Ok, I was looking at slowboy racing and how they are having a sale on their Manley pistons. I tried to do some searching here to see if they would be good enough for my build, but came up empty handed. Anyone have any advice before I start buying stuff?

EDIT: Talked to craig at SBR and he said they would do just fine!

Do I know you by chance 1glaserturbo? Did you go to the columbia meet earlier this year? If so, this is Steevo, the cat with the red 98 GSX. I am currently in the same situation as you are and am building a high horsepower motor also. Maybe we can hold hands and build our motors together..............or not. Your choice.

AHA, ####er, I knew it was you. Yah my POS took a walk on me and brought the crank with it. Ha, its been down for about 3 months now, sucks. Who are you having build your motor? I was thinking about buying all of the parts that I want for the shortblock and sending them along with my 6 bolt block off to Jackson Auto Machining in Maryland or whatever and having them build it for me. I do not want to chance something that will be making in close to 600 whp (spray, high boost, race gas) with me building it.

Myself, machining will be done by someone here locally. I just found out Adam doesn't work with Allied anymore so that's out the window. I was thinking of Phase II instead though :D

I updated the list of stuff I'm buying!
