2G shifting issues

Im having some problems its not the trans but the shifter I think. When I go to shift into 3rd I really have to push hard like it feels like something is in the way of the shifter. And 5th gear is somewhat the same. Any help would be great.

I would start with checking/adjusting the shift cables at the shifter, they can come out of alignment and get overlooked all the time. IIRC there's a write up on the procedure on vfaq.com.
