i wanted to go off this thread due to the fact that i have a Shep tranny. i have a 92 awd talon. the Shep tranny is always giving me problems. The darn thing will not go into gear properly. Little hard to get into 1st, at high rpms above 4 grand. it'll go down to were 2nd is and i let go of the clutch and it doesn't go into gear and there is no grinding. i can always shift into 3rd no deal there. but then at high rpms again i cant get into 4th as well. it seems that 2,4,and reverse just slid in not the usual clink good sound. but normal driving all gears work perfect.

please help me out .

look to me and what i have herd about him shep is a relly good guy whi dont u just contact him and find out what he thinks. if its a problem with the tranny i garentee he will help u fix it and make it right. thats whi people pefer shep over tre cause of the coustomer service.

Yes, double check your linkages. Make sure you have those little rubber (or brass) bushings on the bracket that go to the tranny and align the linkages.

Was this just the basic rebuilt tranny? or one of the fully built shep 8 second spec tranny's?

thanks guys. yeah that was it. Its hard to fix things by myself. the problem was the shaft that goes into from the bracket to the actual shifter on the tranny. the shaft poped off the little rubber coupling. i haven't heard of this happening before. i slipped it back in and can shift it agian. but i dont know if it is going to pop out agian.

If it's where the linkage connects to the tranny I put a large washer on before the cotter pin...

Your clutch can play a bigger role on if you can get into gears without griding. Where does your clutch engage? It should engage at the top. What type of clutch.. Also check and make sure you shifter cable are adjusted properly. I'm sure it's not the shep trans. His a good guy.

well i have a stage 2 exedy clutch with a fandanza lightened flywheel. the clutch grabs about 3" off the floor. i took it to a couple of tranny guys over here in hawaii and they said that were it is, is good. I play around with my clutch i tried adjusting it out all the way were it grabs closer to the top but then my clutch chatters.
