Ok well ive had problems with the car and fixed some now my problem is that when car is at a stop and rpm is below the 1 the steering wheel shakes up and down and the dash also but not alot just steering.wheel also when I floor the car not too much tough just like around 6 rpm the cars temperature starts to rise :/ was wondering if it needs bigger fans? Or something and for the shaking I was thinking maybe changing the sensor on the throtle body? Rpms too low???? Please help

A few things you can check as far as the temps rising. Check how full your coolant is, burp the system, there could be an air bubble in there somewhere. Also check the lower and upper rad hoses to see if they are firm when it reaches normal temp. If they are not the thermostat maybe sticking and vise-versa.

How low is the car idling? 700-800 rpm is the normal, anything below that the car will act like it wants to fall on its face.

Hey bid:

What RPM does your car sit at when it is idling?
Do you have aftermarket engine mounts?
Is your BOV vented to atmosphere?
Have you done a compression test? If so results?
Burp the coolant system as suggested and cross your fingers.
Are your fans working properly? (Let it idle for 20 min, do the fans cycle on and off and hold the temp steady, etc..)

Get some answers to those and we might be able to help out a bit more.

Good luck!

Do you have aftermarket motor mounts? That could cause the shaking. As far as over heating theres alot that goes into it. Is your coolant temp sensor reading right? Your throttle position has to be 0 or 1 for your idle switch to turn over. And your isc should be around 30. Maybe a stuck stat. Something to try is turn on your ac which would turn on your other fans. Stock fans are actually powerfull. The normal temp I believe is 190 to 210 but I can be wrong.

Is the car overheating when your driving or like you run it to 6grand and then come to a stop and it starts to over heat? If it while your driving its not your fans, they don't even really ever come on then because the wind is rushing by faster than the fans can blow so that cools it enough. If its when after you come to a stop that it starts to rise then you need to check your fans. And depending what you have done to your car there can be a whole lot of stuff causing the wheel to shake that's completely normal. But if its idling really low like under 700 then that would also cause vibrations, and then you need to figure out whats causing it. Its normally not setting the idle the CORRECT way, you cant just turn the screw on the throttle body and think you did it right. Search around.

Well the rpms are beetween 700 & 800 my bov is open air also one or two maybe more lifters are starting to tick when turned on as secomds pass the.noise starts to go away I was told oil might be too thick and it takes its time to go up or something I used 10-40 they told me to use 10-30 ??? Also the cars temperature is normal while driving as soon as I hit 6000 rpm temperature goes up to 3/4ths :/ fans do work normally the isc is new 2days old also i took the thermostats off doesent have any umm I believe thats all

Hey bud:

BSE refers to a Balance Shaft Elimination. Its a relevant question. Do you know if you have your balance shafts as stock? Also, what kind of engine mounts do you have? Stock? Prothane? Aluminum?

Any aftermarket motor mount will cause a VERY noticeable vibration in the steering wheel and rear view mirror (as well as any loose plastics in the car) If you have no Balance Shafts and aftermarket engine mounts, all the more so.

Your idle RPM is within spec. Should idle at 750.

Ah yess ive heard of that and it is stock stock and I also forgot to say.that the engine only shakes when its at a stop but when its running it doesent shake at all also left side motor mounts are stock and right side of it is aftermarket I believe it is red rubber with a metal center where the bolt goes teough but it looks good almost new idk but thats how it was when I bought it

Hey bud:

Sounds like you got a Prothane mount on the drivers side. Very common. The shaking is probably going to be normal for you. If you want to soften it up, there are aftermarket stock style engine mounts all over ebay for like $30.. Will take care of it. Upgraded prothane mounts are used to elim wheel hop (in actuality, its a double edged sword, as they elim wheel hop but enduce wheel spin) Either way, the timing and transmission mounts can be left stock and you can do the prothan inserts on the front and rear mounts. This is all that is needed for a silky smooth street car application to the mid/lower 11's. If you ever build faster than that, you wont worry about shake/rattle/and rolling haha

Good luck!

Oh ok nice ill be looking into changing that hopefully some shaking stops LOL thanks mrvict0r now my question is if the 10-40 oil is causing the engine head to knock sounds like the lifters I was told its too thick and taking time to rise because when car is turned on noise knocking is loud as seconds pass the noise dissapears to a barely hearable noise then for like 2 seconds it starts to sound a bit and dissapears again was thinking to change the oil to 10-30????? Any good brands toughts opinions??????? Maybe royal purple???

Hey bud:

Haha welcome to DSM's not sure if your new to them. You will grow to love your lifter tick ;)

In all seriousness, 99% of the time do not worry. Mitsu hydrolic lifters tick. You can upgrade to 3G style lifters, but most of the time it persists. As long as its a light tick/tapping sound just under the valve cover. I would not worry too much. If it is a slower sound from lower in the engine (rods) then its time to start saving your $$$$ There is also cam "wrapping", which is not worth worrying about, because by the time you hear it, your probably 3 engine hours away from snapping a camshaft in half.

Feel free to make a video of the sound of your ticking and upload it to you tube so we can hear it. But I'm willing to bet most of us will file it under "Mitsubishi's lifter tick" and its more or less normal.

Hope that helps!

Aaron
