Self Tinting [Merged 8-9] tint window windows own home

This site may earn a commission from merchant affiliate links, including eBay, Amazon, and others.

If you don't need any tint removed you should be able to get it done at a reputable shop for $150. They should include the winshield strip too.

My brother and I have always done our own

I would not go this route if you have never tinted before. Practice on someone elses car first. :D

I agree completely we've done several vehicles now. His first one looked like crap, second had a piece of hair in each side window :barf: and now he's pretty good at it. His dakota looks awesome and he'll be helping me with my talon quite soon.

so what tint brand are you DIYer's using? and are you talkin about doing the back window on the 95-99 eclipse? in one piece?

i used to tint for a car stereo/alarm shop and i would always quote really high on cars with really difficult backwindows like the 95-99 because i just didn't really wanna do them.

I had mine done at the tint shop I worked at when I was in college. He gave me a good deal ($100)- 15% all around and one piece back window. The back window is hard to do in one piece with metallic film under 20%, but it can be done!

Hey guys, I want window tints on my 98 GS-T except I really don't want it to look ricey. I want to go around 20%, but I'm worried that the dark black strips around the two small side windows and the rear windshield will look weird under a light tint. Does anyone have any pictures of 20%, or any % tint, on their eclipse? Thanks in advance.

I have 20% "green" on my car, though I don't have pics that would give you detail of how the "dot matrix" turned out (the black around the triangles and rear).

I will say its a pain in the butt to do it, but mine came out great with the use of a heat gun. LOL and remember clean clean clean, also tint is just like anything else you get what you pay for so remember that if your doing it yourself.

Theres a few other ways you can do it and this link below helped me on a few other cars.

I will say though if you have the extra money have it done by a pro.

Yeah I am definetely getting it done professionally, I'm just really worried about how the dot matrix will look with a light tint over it.

i have a 90 eclipse and i have 20 on my car and it looks good, just remeber everyshop is differnt mine are like 5 times darker than my friend and he got 20 too but from a differnt shop, maybe ask to see anypictures of the tints befroe hand

I want to get mine tinted too, the guy before me put on horrible do it yourself purple tint which has a crap load of bubbles in it. :| It just ruins the entire look of my car. I called up a shop and they estimated me at about 250??? I thought it would have been cheaper than that. Am I being too optimistic or is that shop a rip off?

theres a locla shop quoting 250 for 4-doors and 200 for coupes...ziebart runs about 200.

Look in my gallery...my rear triangles and rear windows are 15%...the front in the pictures are clear(no tint)...because of getting pulled over for tint, so i ripped it off right in front of the cop.....done deal. I now have legal 50% on the front...and it looks amazing with it being only 50%.

From 3+ feet you will never notice the little dots around the window, if it's done professionally. It took the guy that i had do it 2.5hrs to tint everything buy the windshield. I've got 5% on the back, and 35% on the front. Looks great, and you can still see just fine out the front at night. The dots turned out well because he cut the tint first, then started laying it with a heat gun and an extremly small tool pushing it around the dots. Cost me $210 though... Most places that don't use a heat gun cost $130 for all the windows minus the windshield.

wow in california its only 150 to get it done.. im thinking about getting limo or one stage lighter.. it looks good.. keeps the sun out and i like the privacy :thumb:

Yeah Im in Cali too and I was hoping for something like 150 as well. I guess I will keep looking. Is 50 percent the darkest you can go in the front two legally? Or is it 35? Will the shops still do it for the same cost and everything if you go lower?

Don't know about California, but in Florida the legal limit is 35%. I have had 20% on my car and I got a fix it ticket, costed me $120 to take the 20% off and put the 35% on. The shop that put it on for 20% charged the same, they said they could give me a receipt since it is was illegal.

wow.. that sucks.. yea all levels should cost the same amount.. and there are places all over socal that give you a deal where its 150 for any tint unless you want the mirror or color and they will strip it down and put it back on if you get a fix it ticket.. its worth the hassle for the dark tint IMO.. normally as long as the cops can see you through the tint then they wont ticket you.. just depends on how much of an a$$hole he wants to be i guess :toobad:

At the glass shop by me they are stopping the percentage thing and they just do it in lamence terms like heavy, medium, light and such. I'm going to be getting tints in the very near future and i've gotten mixed suggestions but I think the best looking choice is medium all around as opposed to super black rear windows and lighter front windows. (law in illinois can't tint front windows)

Where should i go to get some window tint? Should i apply it myself? And I need someone from PA that know what the legal percent of tint is.

Apparently it's 30%, but heres the link to see with your own eyes... PA Window Tinting Law, Statutes, and Regulations

You can get tint at your local auto parts store, or buy pre cut online somewhere..The kit is like 20$ then the tint is probly 30+..Better than paying a shop to do it..
