I have been using seafoam in heavy equipment engines for years and I have seen it make dramatic differences in performance and idle quality. I recently had a problem with low power from my 91 talon. It felt like the computer was removing timing. Normally what I do is find a secluded spot because you will smoke down your whole neighborhood. Start the engine and let it get up to opperating temp. I remove a vacum hose and put it in the can and rev the engine to about 2500 rpm and suck the can dry. Shut off the engine and let it sit for about 15 minutes. Then start it back up and run it down the road, and run it hard. This will remove a substantial amount of carbon build up from the combustion chambers. :thumb:

The vacuum line way works fine, you just have to keep the line pinched with your fingers and slowly let the Seafoam go in.

When it comes to the spark plug issue. I have an old set of spark plugs put aside for when I do put seafoam in my engine. It's just another safety step to ensure my plugs don't foul up. I will have to remember to drive for 1 hour when I do place seafoam in through the oil cap.

I used the vacumm line method, a few weeks later when I removed the throttle body you could see the clean spot in the manifold beside where the vac. line entered and trailing down the runners. So it does help clean out the manifold.

yea, it makes sense that it would clean out carbon wherever it goes. I was surprised that he told me it doesn't, but maybe that was a cya thing so he wasn't guaranteeing a clean intake.

It would probably be a little easier to just remove the intake manifold and clean it out with some carborator cleaner or something. It would also be a little less risky for the people scared about locking up their motor.

I just used SEAFOAM today... It was a nice Smoke show.. But not too bad.. I take it that was because I have a pretty well maintained machine. I pulled the B Booster line, and added it there. I poured it in very slow, making sure it was not going to stall the engine... I will tell you it detected a Exhaust leak from my o2 housing to DP... Good to know.. It must have been very slight as I have a good ear for those things. I give Seafoam 2 Thumbs up.

Alright so I'm about to do this and I notice that my 1.8L 4G67 doesn't have a hose coming out of the "P" on the throttle body. Which hose can I use to suck the seafoam up?

Thanks.

I am unsure about the specific ports on your TB, but since you haven't gotten a reply on that as of yet, I will tell you you can let it get sucked in through the brake booster or PCV line if you wish. Nearer the TB the better though, since flow in the IM in directional.

How about just taking the plastic intake off and using the deep creep spray while someone gives it gas? Would this be any better than the PCV?

ugggh just read every post.

It seems that certian vacuum ports dont clean every cylinder equaley.

Which port on a 1g has the best cleaning results?

Brake booster? BOV? PCV?

I'm only going to inject it into the intake manafold since I just changed my oil.

I'll soak the piston tops before I chang the oil.

Thanks

I put some through the BOV line and some through the FPR line ( my TB has no ports left, i plugged them with set screws). I haven't had any lifter tick since, and i didn't even put it in the oil. After doing mine, a friend went to the store nad got some to do his. Then later that same week we did my girls neon and her 99 dodge ram 1500 and it made a nice difference on both.

The dodge was suffering from phantom oil pressure drops to zero, then would rise back up. They say it's because carbon gets in the pick up ( the pick up has TINY opening in it)..So, we put 1/2 can through the TB, and the other 1/2 in the oil. The problem went away but came back 3 days later, then i put a regular mechanical gauge on it and it hasn'thappened since, go figure.

Now i've got 3 more friends waiting to come over and have me help them seafoam their cars the vacume line way, because they are scared of locking their motors up.

It's great stuff, i'll always use it!

Mine has well over 230k on it and it works fine. The only caution is... It was a few posts back, but it is about the carbon build up, on the rings. If you have old beat up rings and you run seafoam through it will clear the carbon and end up spewing oil where you don't want it. That's my only caution about doing this at high miles. You might be up for a rebuild.

How was the car treated before you got it? And how hard do you drive it? (If that has to do with it)

Edit:
For over 230K my baby is running great after a seafoam treatment! Idle is better, and throttle response is also better. So it is your choice if you want to risk it or not. From reading the thread a lot of have said it's a 50/50 chance. And most say rebuild.

I was told to use a product called Engine RX in my Ford IDI diesel engine, because diesels dont produce any vacuum you cant do the same thing with them as you do with these gas engines. It has to be put in the oil and ran for 2 or 3 oil cycles before it cleans the carbon out.

Well depends if you have the $$$ to rebuild. And hey, if you have the money to rebuild, why not seafoam it anyways.

Oh how I long for a rebuild

Edit:
Well on the can it says it can be used for diesels as well. You can put it in your crankcase and gas. Have you looked into the seafoam deepcreep? That is in spray form rather than liquid.
