Screwed over with buying exhaust....

so i was going to buy this exhaust today from a buddy of mine.... its a apexi n1 that i was going to buy for 300$. I picked him up to go to his moms house to go get the exhaust when i got there. He found out his brother had thrown away the exhaust..... He still had the downpipe at his gfs house where he usually stayed.... so he gave me the dp and 2 f/m i/c. I honestly dont know what to do. Should i just go look online and buy the N1 catback or would you do somethign different... god im lost..... also what would be better a test pipe or a highflow cat. i mean the high flow cat is pretty much the same as a regular cat it just has bigger holes in the mesh inside of it..... so would a test pipe be worth it?
Also forgot to mention my car is a 91 eagle talon tsi....

Why are you tweaking? There are plenty of affordable exhaust systems or you could just fab one up at a muffler shop for less than $300!

haha i know there are...... im just a bit confused as to why someone would throw an exhaust away in the first place. uhm and what im wondering is the dp has no flange to connect it to another exhaust so would i need to buy a flange and have someone weld it on? and again would a high flow cat be better or just a test pipe.... bleh?

stock/high flow CAT is for people that need to pass emissions so if your state doesnt do the test why buy a cat that will cost arm and leg. Test pipe is pretty much making it straight i vote test pipe but like i said if your state does emission test then get a cat.

for the DP you would want a flage/v-band or slide a pipe over it and weld it

Look on our classifieds for a catback im sure you will find something on there part outs for sell ads etc

So you just wanted to rant? The flange was prob cut off, because it didnt fit to the other catback.

There are a million possibilities. ALso you dont need to have another flange you can just weld the downpipe and catback. But to separate them, its easier to have it flanged.

Lastly, he never "screwed you over". Did you actually give him $300 for just a downpipe?

lucky you.. Austin has smog test... i have a test pipe because thats what came with my turbo back, and my car cant pass worth shit!
Its better for performance to have a test pipe, but not good for the air we breath!
and you exhaust will be louder and smell a bit more rich!

I picked up an apexi n1 muffler from a friend, and had an exhaust shop build me a 3" turbo back for $110.

you aren't going to find a bolt-in 3" high flow cat for a DSM since the stock exhaust diameter for a DSM is 2.25".

I wouldn't buy a high flow cat just to say I have one. It sounds like a waste of money that could be put to use elsewhere

I run a standard basic 3" universal cat that only costed about $80 or less, and I haven't had any negative effects.
