Dont know where to post this, so i will put it here and if it needs to be moved, please do. Ok here is the problem. When the car is cold and I start it, there is a lot of noise from the belts. I have checked and they look to be in good shape and they dont seem to be loose. Once the car heats up, then the sounds goes away, just after the sound goes away there is a clacking sound that also goes away, I have been reading and read something about the crank pulley doing this on ther members, just dont know of an easy way of checking this.... Any suggestions are appritiated, thanks in advance.

belts need to be really tight. i mean tight. you can take a look at your crank pulley and see if it wobbles, but the symptom your talking about is most likely loose belts. if your crank pulley is wobbling then it would show belt damage.

ok, i have checked both things, all belts feel really tight to the hand, i have not seen any damage in the belts but will double check this today, this sound in the morning is loud LOL, and it last for about 20- to 30 sec then it goes away for good.

Had the same symptom just before the 6 bolt swap. When I went to remove the belts, then eventually the balancer, I saw that the rubber isolator/insert in the balancer pulley was 95% ripped through. It`s very common - get some light in there & check it carefully . . .

Thanks, that is exactly what I will do when I get home from work. Now the big question if this is the problem, how hard is this fix, does the timing belt needs to come off????

No you don`t need to remove any of the timing covers, etc. to replace the balancer, just the 3 belts. You will probably need an air or electric impact gun to break the crank bolt loose though. also, now is a good time to replace the 3 belts now that they`re off . . .

^^^Agreed. If your belts have been slipping for any amount of time, they might be "glazed" and are not that expensive anyway. Even if you don't find a problem, I'd replace the belts.

well, was taking a look today and noticed that once its quite and i rev the engine, about 4500 and up the sound comes back and there is a little bit of smoke comming from the belts, took the cover for the timing belt and see the smoke coming from the bottom, I will have to check if there is any play on the crack pulley from the bottom. Just wanted to give you guys an update.

BTW all the belts look fairly new, the guy i bought it from said it had about 9k on all the belts including the timing, and they look pretty good, will keep you guys updated.

Well, here to give an update. Thank you to everyone who helped me on this thered, bought the new harmonic balancer and did the swap, the old one came out in 2, got the new one in and everythings is nice and quite now.
