Well a friend of mine is selling his SCM-5031E 50 trim, and he said I have first dibs on it. As of right now, my car is completly stock, but this winter im throwing on a few bolt ons...:D so I was wondering, when I do have the appropiate mods, will this tubo be too much for a FWD?
Mods i plan on installing before turbo:
Walbro 255lph
Aeromotive AFPR (installed already)
RC Engineering 750 injectors
FMIC of some sort...not sure on size yet
Either Apexi SAFC or the MAFT, havent decided yet
Exedy Stage 3 clutch (installed)
2-1/2" Turbo-back exhaust, hi flow cat, with Dynomax Oval muffler (Not installed, sitting in garage)
AEM UEGO wideband (have sensor, just have to order guage)

The turbo is a Mitsu style housing, with an internal wastegate. He runs this now at 22psi and has no creep issues, with 2-1/2" downpipe and 3" cat-back. Also runs water/meth injection, with boost at 28psi. Car pulls hard all the way to redline, however, how will this turbo perform on a FWD? Will it be a tire fryer when i see boost, and will it be streetable?? Please help me with all these questions, and feel free to speak your own opinion. I want to do alot of research before i shell out the cash. Thanks guys.

There is no such thing as too much power :D Having said that, you will have major traction issues. Just learn to drive it appropriately. Some things you could do to make it easier to drive on the street are: Get an LSD to use both front tires for traction (it will help somewhat), get the widest tires you can fit, and get an electronic boost controller to limit your boost depending on the gear you are in.
Once you are rolling, that turbo will move you way too fast for any street legal fun :)

No this turbo is not to much for fwd. With a larger turbo like a 50trim the lag will help with wheel spin. Its not like a 16g that spools fast and hits hard.It will spool a little later and will come on more linear.I am running a t4 60trim with a karking lsd and expensive tires and I dont have much if any wheel spin.My turbo spools pretty late which is part of no wheel spin. You will be fine with that turbo. You will need alot of supporting mods before I would install it though.

It all comes down to traction, My GST broke traction at 200 WHP with shitty tires. I bought some new Falkens 615's last year and they held 330whp with a 14B and a 50 Shot of nitrous. My car at 400+ the tires will break in 4th, you just need to learn some throttle control. The best mods you can do for the money are:

Good tires
Poly mounts
Suspension

I would agree with these things to buy for traction.I think out of those the one that you did not mention is a true lsd, that is where I noticed most of the improvement.I also couldnt keep the tires from spinning with my 14b I would spin all the way through 2nd.That was with cheap radials no lsd no motor mounts.

I also agree, particularly with suspension. Once I put in 5-way adjustables and set the rears stiff and the front a couple degrees softer, there was a massive difference in my weight transfer. Now my wheelspin is minimal when before it was pretty nasty, making wet weather driving irritating.

The best answer to your question would be that its not too big in the sense that you will learn to drive your car and minimize traction problems with technique. Tires, suspension and mounts will help make that easier, but as far as im concered, there is an acura integra that drives around here with 500fwhp and runs low 11's on drags, if thats possible, in his acura, its possible in your dsm with a 50 trim :thumb:

Oh and I forgot to comment on the streetability part... Shouldnt be too bad, I have a 1g with a PTE 60 trim right now that im probably selling, spool is a little slow with the 60 but i would imagine a couple thousand rpms faster with the 50 trim. Check the website that he bought the turbo from, usually the manufacturer will provide specs to that extent

It is too much. But it is fun. With my SCM6176BB last week at 25psi on pump gas my mirage was bouncing off the rev limiter in 5th gear and trapping 101mph. Granted this was my first ever experience with FWD. And the crappy tires. But, the tires break loose in any gear at any speed. As soon as boost hits they have no chance. This is on stock size 205/60R14's. Tires are no name tires and I have about zero experience with a massive FWD car. AWD I am your man. Have cut a few 1.5 and 1.6 60's. Once again, it sure is fun though.

Well i forgot to mention that i do have prothane mounts installed. But thanks for mentioning those anyway. I think im going to buy the turbo, but it won't be anytime soon that it will be installed. Still have alot of work to do.
Another question, since im on the stock cams and intake, which size injectors should i get and what to tune with?? I opened my ECU a while back in hopes if finding an EPROM, but it isn't. I would really like to get DSMLINK or a chip, but thats not possible with my budget (in college and working...).I know anything over 660's and a SAFC its hard to tune do to the deadtime and timing issues, so what exactly should i get??
Feel free to post your comments, knowledge, etc..... anything that would help me out.
Shawn

Im just starting my "build" for a new turbo....and Im going with a 5031E (by the way, whats the difference between a PTE5031 and a SCM5031 or are they the same?)...anyways, I plan on getting DSMLink for my first mod...just to get it out of the way since Ill be installing the mods all at once when I have everything. Then Ill buy probably 650cc-700cc injectors, a AFPR, Wally 255 and other goodies. Then Ill get the turbo and install everything at once....I havent heard one bad thing about the 5031e...even tho its journal bearing, to me it looks like a good streetable 50 trim. Im AWD so obviously i wont have any real traction issues, but you should be ok....nothing a set of drag radials cant fix...but street tires will be annoying i suppose. anyone else have any info on this turbo?

BB5031 > 5031. Faster spool and keeps spooled during shifts. I used to own a 50 trimmed FWD (now AWD) and she spun like hell all the way to third. It made for a good ride and was a far superior turbo to my G50 or e316G on the highway. I say get it and make ridiculous power and have fun!

FWD will always have traction problems. The key is just getting the timing of your shifts and perfecting your technique. I would say as far as keeping the car reasonably streetable, stick with something like the 660's ### as you said, easier tuning.
