Join NASA and race to your hearts content! It's a national club like SCCA. No autocross, just track racing. You can start with HPED class which is training for eventual racing. Check it out www.nasaproracing.com

My Laser is FWD the AWD adds to much weight to my car. I'm down to 1960lbs. and with 300WHP the car fly's. As far as relocating go on line to www.nasaproracing to find out the local clubs in your area......

When I started running my FWD Laser in Solo II it was a real challange. Trying to keep the car within the track layout got a bit frustrating especially excellerating through the turns. I learned that you need to drive the car as if there is no rear end (from the end of the doors forward). I must also point out that my car was full race with 300WHP which made it even more difficult to manuver on tight Solo II tracks. Because my car had so many modifications I ran in the local San Diego class called Street unlimited. This class basically has no restrictions so my competition were cars like 1000 HP total built RX7's, Viper's Ferrari's, Twin turbo Porche's, etc........ and out of 50 cars in this class I took 3rd overall by years end.
I'ev since moved on to road racing with NASA proracing and am having a blast. There's nothing like driving on real race tracks. My car is still running in an unlimited class so my competition are the badest most powerful cars out there. I ran California Speedway TransAm course (three quarters of the big oval and the twelve turn infield course) three times in 2003 and kicked ass. At any given time in the garage area I'd have Viper's, Porche's, Ferrari's, etc. parked on either side of me, and all their drivers would be standing around checking out the little red DSM that blew their doors off......... If you check out the Feb 2004 issue of Sport Compact Car you'll get a better idea of what I'm talking about. John Mueller from Road Race Engineering has completely set up my car. The handling and power is amazing and it's so cool to have a 90 Plymouth Laser out turn and blow by a $100,000.00 dollar Ferrari!!!!!!!!!! YES, THESE CARS CAN DO MORE THAN JUST DRIVE FAST IN A STRAIGHT LINE!
Good luck,
Greg

since i last posted, bham AL has gotten barber motorspeedway. im still not that close to actually racing because im trying to go to school at UTI that takes mony. i would like to get a better mechanical feel for cars in general so i can do most if not all the repairs form racing it myself. as for a car i found a 90 plymouth laser RS turbo too i would like to build for roadraceing. but eventually i will be out there kicking serious butt. :laser: :thumb:

Keep it up Greg, I hear far too few stories of DSMrs kicking butt in Solo II, and even fewer kicking it in NASA/SCCA pro racing.

I run in the local autocrosses in SM class, compete in most of the rallycross events (was MO4 class champion in 2001), and do several open track events each year at places like Summit Pt and VIR. Don't think I'll be getting into pro racing anytime soon for a variety of reasons, but maybe someday...

Hey Greg,

Good to see you on here. I posted the first time without looking at the thread date, and then realized it was over a year old...

Anyway, just wondering if you were going to be out at Cali Speedway for the March NASA event.

How's the car doing?

This is Scot by the way:

Scot,
How the hell are you! I haven't even started my car up since I got back from Willow Springs in July last year, some health crap I'ev been dealing with. I'm suppose to bring up one of my engine blocks to Mueller this year for the big horse power job which includes the new turbo you guys have in store for me. Your car looked great in Sport Compact Car article. I also saw the video you made of Muellers Fontana run and your Dyno run. What was it.......485 WHP? Good job! I really want to be at Fontana in March and I'm hoping it will be a reality. I'll let you know.
Greg

Ah damn, sorry to hear you aren't feeling too well. Mueller has been all ####ed up too...

Your car was just getting dialed in. Hopefully this season will be better for you. Email me when you are ready for the next track day and I'll try to make it out.
