Does anyone have this or know anyone that does? How well does it perform?

I've been trying to firmly nail down my upgrade path before I start moving forward with them, and I'm hung up on the turbo right now. Basically, I'd like to have a very streetable car thats capable of running mid to low 12's but may possibly flirt ever so slightly with upper 11's (ultimate goal).

For supporting mods, I've pretty much decided on the following:

Aeromotive FPR
Walbro 255lph in tank FP
680cc PTE Injectors
DSMlink
TurboXS Boost Controller (please recommend me one if there's a better one for less)
Ebay FMIC
2.5" Exhaust w/ Cutout

The EvoIII generally runs $500+ with the addition of an 2G install kit, which generally runs about $150+ from what I've seen. That put's it very close to this turbo, which is supposed to be a direct bolt on from what SBR advertises. Would there be a better alternative to these two?

I have to disagree with this. I am a friend here that run's high 11's weekly on an EVO III 16g with no cams, SMIM, any internal engine work done and he still has part of his stock UICP and all of his stock LICP with a FMIC and the proper fuel mods. So on an SBR G50 it should be easy to do. You will just need slicks and a great launch. 11's in an AWD car is a lot easier than in FWD.

I'll offer my .02.

Running 11's on a stock engine with a 16G or 50 trim is entirely possible, and it has been done a bunch of times. Now, factor in a relatively new drag driver and FWD (even AWD!) 11's is a far cry.

I definately agree, awd is so much easier to get a higher 1/4mile time just due to the much better launch! its funny my friends car has more power(rich kid with a turbo honda) and he pulls on me by about 1 to 1.5 car lengths on me on the highway but in a drag race I still whip his butt just because he has a hard time launching the darn car!!!
In short spurts from a dead stop I kill him everytime!! if the race kept going longer than 1/4mile though he would eventually make up the distance and beat me(actually I think we have around same power but that freakin civic is so light! and our cars are kind of heavy)

I'm not trying to flame here but just to defend ebay intercoolers me and my buddy bought our intercoolers at the same time. I bought an ssautochrome and he bought the slowboy. He has a frank 4 turbo and I have a pte 50 trim, and I run 4 more psi than him keep in mind... So me 24psi him 19psi same duration on the intercoolers and we discover this in his slowboy

So to me thats why I'm a fan of ssautochrome. I've ran more boost through mine and daily drive it, he only drives his on the weekends.

Did you send this back to us for repair?

I myself have been debating on whether or not to upgrade to a 50 trim and this one is one of my options. Either this, the BB PTE 3051E, or the FP 3052. Currently I run an EVO3 16g and it puts out plenty of power for a DD (heck I pulled on a GSXR the other night!) but I just feel like the car should have more! Any recommendations on which way I should go or if I should just do some more tuning and keep my 16g?

The FP 3052 is nowhere near a 50 trim it's more of a 30R.

old thread, I know but im curious what kind of spool you guys are getting with this turbo. Im worried that if I choose the SBR g50 over an Evo3 16g or TD06 18g that I be waiting forever for the boost to come on. Being all wheel drive, letting the boost come on fast is just fine....

IMO - the G50 will not spool up near as well as an EVO III 16G which spools as well as a stock 14B - the real MHI EVO III turbo is THE BEST 350 HP DSM turbo on the market if you have all the right supporting mods. I do not think many will argue with me on this point.

The G50 has its place - it is a 400 plus HP turbo that spools fairly well and has good driveability IMO.

Not sure if this helps or not, sorry - LOL.

how much slower is the g50 going to spool compared the evo.....as in, where in the revs am I going to hit full boost??

Listen call Dustin over at Slow Boy Racing.. Tell him chris told you to call... First of all get the thought of a sbr g50 out of your head.. Get the g60.. g50 will allow you to get about 425 or so at the wheels with a killer tune pushing the juice out the turbo.. If you roll with the g60.. It's one of the best on pump gas.. You get about another 9 or 11 percent overall boost (will allow you to boost about 30 to 32ish lbs, while the g50 will only allow you to push about 22ish lbs or so.. Please dont quote me on the 22, could be 24)... And there the same price.. Get you intercooler from them too.. The SBR front mount is only about 600 (almost double the ebay brands) but its a greddy core... And those half the time sell alone for 500 or more.. Get both together and he'll probably cut you a decent deal.. =0)

The G50 spools around 3500 3600 rpms.. With alittle cam adjustments you can get it spooling just under 3000..

The EVO III is decent.. But only if your tryin to be around 350whp or somewhere around there... Thats just IMO

I have been debating for a while between the EVO 3 Big 16g and the SBR G50. Recently I have been leaning towards the SBR G50 simply because I think it has much more potential that the 16g. A local guy near me runs low 12's with the SBR G50 at 25psi with a good tune and lots of fuel. So, I think simply because of the extra room of the G50 it would be a good choice! Also, I see that Slowboy Racing just made it on the Forbes Top 500 Companies, Congrats!!

Isnt the g60 going to spool even slower than the g50?????

Ebay vs our FMIC - you have to be kidding.

Kia vs. BMW - any reason for the price difference?

seriously?

i love SBR and the service (look forward to spending about 2k$ within the next 6 months on parts when i get my next 1gAWD project through you guys), but thats the best you can come up with?

to me, ebay fmic kits are cheap get the job done, much like a kia, its cheap and gets you from point A to B. flashier name brand kits do just the same, like a BMW, get you from point A to B, except that you can gloat to all your friends that you have a BMW and they dont.

ive seen name brand kits fail, actually ive seen quite a few cracked intercoolers posted on here. i have not seen any failures on any of the local ebay fmic kits, or anybody posting about ssac or ebay intercooler failures, and i know two guys who have ran them for 3+ years now, since the 100$ ebay 24x12x3 core came out.

btw just a little fun rock throwing. SBR :rocks: look forward to getting a SBR G60, cheap turbo, gets the job done. keep on keepin on SBR!

I have a SBR-G50, it works great. 1 year of 20psi on my 2.0L ~ 2000 miles, and now it is going on my 2.3L Stroker @ 22psi. I usually talk directly with Mike Huml, great guy to deal with and gives pretty decent deals.

I have a g50 with all the supporting mods. Look in my profile to see exactly what I have. Post #35 is wrong about only running 22psi. Thats just stupid. I run 28psi on pump or race gas. With race gas I just load my more agressive tune. I have never been to the track so I don't know what times I run exactly. But based on the other cars I pull on my car should be in the 11.6 range. My goal is to run 10's on this turbo with just boost. Then I am going to add a 75 shot.

I think 11's are completely possible with that turbo! I'm a big fan of our bolt on 50trim. 400+ with very little effort. I don't really know (or care) a whole lot about the Ebay FMIC's, but I can tell you, the rest of your mod's list looks pretty solid.

I usually reccomend people step up injector size when using DSMLink. The cost difference is minimal, and leaves you a lot more room for the future.

Hey can you tell me if this Turbo is a SBR G50?

This is an older thread, but that looks like one to me, or at least a 50 or 57 trim of some sort anyways, the housing and compressor wheel look that of the g50. Justin (jusmx)would be able to ID it better than anybody.

Yes thanks.. it turned out to be a SBR G50 according to justin.. im wondering if i could use my stock wastegate actuator off my T25 and fit it with my SBR G50 WG flapper.. or would that not work?

Not gonna work due to bracket design and spring tension. If you got it to fit you'd be lucky to make 12psi with the huge flapper Kinetic installs in these turbos.

There were no direct-fit T04E actuators made to my knowledge. Every one I've seen in use on T04E-based DSM turbos were all custom-built.
