Well I just thought I would post my experience and install progress with this intercooler. I'm still kind of trying to figure out how to install this so that's what I thought I'd post here. Any help or suggestions would be great.

I bought the FMIC right from SBR for $725 plus $50 shipping with the Greddy flange. It was the best deal I could find on that set up. I was thinking about the Greddy but saw too many negative write ups about it and saw nothing but good things about this Front Mount.

Here are some pictures of me receiving it in the mail which came UPS.

Over all the packaging was good. It took about 7 days to get. The core had some scratches and dings on it. It wasn't too bad but being brand new it was kind of upsetting.

Here is the Right side Fog taken off.

That's were I ended for the night. Do I have to knock off the front bumper mounting brackets? Tomorrow I'm going to cut the hole to the right of the condenser.

YOu can find the bolts for the bumper mounts underneath the car. There up in little holes and i bbelieve there 14mm bolts. If im not mistaken each side has 3 bolts. but it may just be 2. but i didnt have to remove tham with my fmic. Thought i was going to but i didnt. But my kit isnt the sbr its the ssac kit which is very similar.

Did you have those mounting "fins" on the side like the one I have? I'm just not sure where I'm going to mount it. I'd think I'd have to take those mounts off then mount it right on there.

That may be but mine had 2 bars coming off the sides that bolted to the factory fog light holes. It didnt have plates to mount so that may be the difference. But one of my buddys has the same one you got from sbr on his talon and he kept his bumper support. but had to do alot of trimming on it.

You will need to remove the bumper brackets. also, you will need to cut 2 3 inch holes where the endtanks run through the core support and you should be all good. Be VERY careful when cutting the holes though, the harness runs pretty tight along the frame there and you dont want to bust it up with a saw zall blade...that would be bad..LOL. You can cut the zip ties holding the harness secure just to temporarily pull it away from the frame while you are cutting.

A word of helpful advice, replace the existing sheet metal screws and body screws with SS ones.

6mm x 1.00 ~ 16-17 mm long will work for most applications. When I did my FMIC, links here and here, many bolts sheared. Run a 6mm x 1.00 tap through the holes first to clean them out. Add a little anti-seize and tighten to spec. Don't forget washers and lock washers as well for each bolt. You'll also would need a drill, PB Blaster, and varying sizes of drill bits up to just less than 6mm to drill out sheared bolts and retap them. I spent alot of time fixing the bolts... nearly more than the actual IC install. Also fixed some sheared body bolts that came on the car when I bought it.... crappy body shop work (though great paint matching).

Well I got the hole cut today, but that center bumper mount gets in the way. What do people do when it comes to the hood latch support? Do most people cut it and then set it on top of that square on the center of the fmic? If they do that then what do they do with the lines that are connected to that center support? Do they just dangle?

I didn't have to modify my latch support at all. My SBR FMIC fit right over it. Mine must be a freak of nature.

Check out that link that I posted above. It's a write-up on how to install one of these kits. It should answer almost all of your questions.

Ok so I positioned the fmic abouts where I wanted and here is my problem and I want to know what you guys think....

Here is the fmic

Here is the left side. As you can see it's very close to where it needs to be bolted.

Here is the right side, this side is much farther away.

Then here is the center latch support right up against the middle of the fmic.

First off I don't want that center section pressing up against the fmic. So I could put some small spacers in there. What I'm thinking about doing is just cutting that center support up to where all the supports meet then just setting it on top of that center reinforced area on top of the fmic. What are peoples thoughts?

The idea is to pound the lower portion flat ... and not distort the hood latch mounting position in any way. Just need a 1/4" or so.

I know when I installed my ETS, the center support bolt sheared when I took it off. So I had to drill and retap it ... and the hole is larger that a 6mm bolt. I believe its actually 7 ... pssibly 8mm.

Ok, I finally got the thing in and installed. I had a fmic in before this one so everything was set to that one. I jumped in the car and tried to start it. After about 3 cranks she starts and runs extremely rough for about 4 seconds then stalls. Every time the same thing, any ideas what it might be?

YEah you probably dont have one of the couplers connected good enough? you have a major vaccum leak somehwere? As for the center support that has the power steering cooling lines hooked to it. if i were you i would just cut it and take those cooling lines off and use a piece of hose to loop it at the resevoir you dont really even need them, thats what i did and have had no problems with it. I also cut the support there and then connect the suppor to the top tab of the intercooler(I wasn't paying attention to your pictures if it had a tab on the top center). yeah the sbr kit is nice and everything but for the price the ssautochrome is just as much as a qualitly piece. thats what i have and haven't had a problem with it. I will be superised if your bumpers fits with the core pushed that far away from the radiator support.

QUESTION FOR EVERYONE: What is that black box underneath the drivers headlight, looks like something for the ac? my car already had a shitty fmic on it before and that piece wasn't there when i took the bumper off.

+1 on boost leak test. It is ALWAYS done after any messing with the intake system past the turbo.

Also you didn't do something silly like forget to install the MAS(MAF) sensor on the intake... both having it electrically connect and installed intake pipe?
