Mean green and some elbow grease. I wouldn't just hose it off. Get a big bottle and go nuts with it. Let it sit for a few minutes, spray again, and then start wiping. The dirt and oil will melt off.
 
Mean green or simple green. I've heard of simple green, Is it the same stuff?

Elbow grease, damm. Most of the grease and such is in hard to get to areas, but I sure as hell can try..

Mine are probly illeaal too, but the cops around here probly aren't about to pull me over...My shit is all legal, sept for the head light's of course..
 
all the cops here are mainly ex marines so they are all gung ho with pullin ppl over, they treat a 10 mph violation like a murder charge, i will get some pics up tonight when it gets dark

Yeah I'm going to chlean up all of the oil and grease this weekend. I'm thinking of keeping the engine bay looking stock. I don't ever show anybody,but if I did , I wouldn't want it looking all pimped out...
