do both of these controllers do the same thing?

yes and no. When you say the maft Pro do you mean the one that is like $450 with the digitial screen? With a maft you will be using a gm maf, by doing this you will no longer need the mas that came with your car.This allow you to eliminate the intake tube that comes on your car. You can either buy or fab up a intake pipe and put a filter on it or just leave the stock tube and sensor there unplug. I wouldn't reccomend that though because it's just a unnecesarry restriction, especially if you have a 1g. THe MAFT allows you to vent your BOV to atmosphere, thats great if you like all the ricers in wal marts parking lot looking at you. LOL. The SAFC has nothing to do with a gm maf at all so you will still be running off your stock mas. Now for the actuall tuning of the two. I am pretty sure that you can tune about the same with both. I do think that you can maybe set whatever A/F on the MAF Pro that you want and it will automatically adjust everything for you at WOT. You dont really hear much about the MAFT pro, i think being that most people go with the regular MAFT and use a safc in conjuction with each other. The MAfT Pro is only a few bucks cheaper then a standalone. Personally, piggybacks are nothing but a headache. Yeah you can tune your car with them and get it pretty close, but you will never be able to get it deadon and accurate. Get DSMlink and call it a day it will do whatever you need it to do.

I just found out that my 90 TSI AWD does not have a Eprom ECU, so now I have to hunt one down then I plan on getting the DSM link. I believe my stock non modded 1g mas is bad and I think it my have a little to do with my idle surging & fuel cut but I may be wrong. Anyways I wanted to upgrade it hoping that it may help the idle surge & fuel cut a little bit?

Fuel cut? how much boost are you running? stock? I would get dsm link if i were you it's way better and has so many more options. NO EProm? I thought all the 90's came with them or is that the 95's? If it is bad you have a couple options you could do-If your planning on link you will need either a mas or a maf. If you want to go cheap i would get a 2g mas or if you want to spend some money and get rid of some clutter in your engine bay get a maft and gm maf. Thats what i have with link.I haven't got the car done yet so i am still learning the whole tuning part with the labtop.

I believe it is fuel cut, I am running about 14psi. The guy I got the car from said it had the Eprom ECU but once I got it and I opened up the ECU I found out its a non eprom, so he must of switched it right before I got it :mad:

Do you think the Maft & GM Maf would help the what I believe is fuel cut? Exactly what will the Maft & GM Maf do compared to my stock non modded 1g Maf?
