Hey guys, I have all the supporting mods for my small 16g. Check out my profile please. I'm about to tune my car with my s-afc. Question is can anyone give me some start out setting for my small 16 g setup? i'm trying to run at least 19 psi up to 22. don't know whats a safe setting for the stock motor. Thanks for all the help like usual:thumb:

i know you need atleast arp head studs over 18 psi safely
wideband and a logger too
His profile says he has pocketlogger. Your supposed to get arps for higher boost but a lot of people have been fine on stock studs. I think 20 or so psi would be fine.
Tuning with a narrowband o2 sensor is another story though. Like stated a wideband would be a good investment. If you cant get one right now, then make sure your current o2 sensor is in good working order and cycles during idle. I would tune it a little rich at wot with a narrowband too just to be safe, like .96.
You do need to get an afpr.
Start out at lower boost, like 14-15, get your afr right, then turn up the boost little by little while keeping the afr in line. And watch for any dips in the timing curve indicating knock.

Hey man. Thanks for the info. i actually do have the fuel lab. a-fpr intalled and set at 43.5 psi with the vac line off and 38 when the vac line is back on. I have no clue even how to start tuning. The info you gave helped a lil. I actually just got done installing the fuel injectors today. My logger is do for delivery tom. any other tips would be greatly appreciated.
I really do not have the money for a wide band right now. But i did just replaced both the o2 sensor's a month or two ago. prob. about 1000 miles ago at the most.
 
Well let me see if I can help you get started better. I see you have evo 8 injectors. What cc/min do they flow? And I am assuming your maf is not "hacked" (none of the honeycombs out). Basically for 550cc's you need to put both the low throttle and high throttle cables at -10% because you want the ecu to see 10% less airflow because your injectors are flowing more than the ecu knows it is. For 650s, go around -18%. If the evo 8s are inbetween 550s and 650s then choose an appropriate value. Its alright if your a little off, you can adjust it later.
Now your going to have to start the car and drive it around for a couple days to get the ltft and stft in-line. Basically since we both have 2gs a perfect fuel trim is 0. You want to get it as close as possible and even when you do they will still bounce around from time to time depending on certain variables. The short term fuel trim is what the o2 sensor is reading. The long term fuel trim is what the ecu table is set at. The ltft will not change unless coolant temp is above 180 and the intake temp is under ~85.
If you look at the ltft and stft and add them together then that is what your fuel trim is at. A trick I read in one post stated that if you can get the stft to be 0 then the ltft will eventually follow. So try that out. And of course you have to do the low throttle points 1k 2k 3k 4k at this and they will be pretty close to each other. Play around with it and see what you can get.
What kind of logger did you get?
 
i got ya. i got the software and cable off of pocketlogger.com and purchased a palm series three.Its all new to me.:) so i should be setting as close to 0 on the stft as i can get it? Ihaven't even plugged it in to the car and played yet. The evo injectors flow arond 560 to 580 i've heard. Don't even know if there's a option to see the stft. LOL
Do you set the low and high throttle the same way? And doesn't it depend on what turbo you have and psi you are running for the settings? or not?
 
ok frist off like what was said above wideband what size injectors are you going with 650s is max and hard to tune with just an safc2 unless you have an eprom chip set for the new injectors. but 550s should be more then enogh with a small 16. i had a big 16 with 550s on 25lbs for awhile and i had fuel let over. i had a wideband and let me tell you it makes tunning sooo much eaiser
 
i have evo 8 injectors which flow around 560 to 580 cc's. Yeah i want to get a wideband. Hopefull soon:thumb: I really just need to know what to look for to tune with the s-afc like people say you have to get it down to as close to 0 as you can for the high and low throttle setting, but what are you at to get to 0? I know you have to set this at each tousand rpm's on the s-afc low settings just reving and high wot roll on the highway. Just don't know what i'm looking to get down to 0 as close as i can?:confused: Thanks for all the help;)
 
you'll never know without the wideband...you need to be a 11.5ish a wot just driving around easy 14s are fine. but you'll never get a perfect tune without the wideband. ive got 4k into my motor i didnt up the boost past 14 untill i got a wideband and this 14lbs on a 13b
 
The wideband is used for a more accurate means of monitoring your Air/Fuel ratio.
As others have stated this will help you monitor and tune your A/F ratios to 11-11.5ish under WOT. While your not in boost, just cruising around not boosting your A/F ratio should be around 14.7ish.
Your stock O2 sensor only puts out a 1v signal and is very inaccurate when compared to a wideband O2 sensor which uses a 5v signal. All in all it gives a broader and more accurate range to monitor your A/F ratio.
Your logger helps with watching the timing curve, monitoring knock, and fuel trims, injector pulse width, etc. There are many other important data that is helpful in determining how your engine is running.

What datalogger program do you plan on running?
