A while back I had saw in passing a thread about someone custom fitting an RX-7 hood onto a dsm. At the time I wasn't interested. However, I found a carbon fiber RX-7 hood for only $100. I was wondering if anyone might now how much work this would take to install.

I have a 1g laser, so I have the pop out headlight that the rx-7 this hood came off of has. I can't seem to find the article. Any help would be appreciated.

It probably got deleted from a mod or something. How long ago was it?

Truthfully I'm not really sure. I was really just doing a search for something else. I wish I could remember. LOL.

Heres a comparison. The 1g hood is close to the same length as a 2g. Theres no way you would be able to get it to fit easily. You still have to clear the cam gears too.

sorry thats kind of a bad picture. The mazda hood looks like its almost a foot longer.

It was probably custom fit because theres no way that it would clear the cam gears unless it was a N/A

Buy the hood, go on the Rx7 forums, and sell it for twice the amount you bought it for. Then save another 200 or so and get a CF hood for the 1g instead. You'll save a ton of money in trying to fabricate something that was not made to fit our cars and you made yourself and an RX7 owner happy.

i just seen an older rx7 at the junk yard. i pulled off the sun roof latch and put it on my talon. an older rx7 and a 1g dsm hood are alot closer than the pics above. but id still buy the hood and sell it for twice as much and get a dsm hood that you know will work.

A 1g hood is longer I measured it for my conversion and I have to change the front core support.

yeah they're getting pretty rare. The junk yards have pretty much started crushing all of the cars over 10 years old around me. I go to bigger junk yards in Columbus and get lucky sometimes. Usually if I find a dsm they are parted out or the n/t models. I found one a few months back and bought extra parts for spares. :thumb: Never know when you'll need them.

Junkyards are doing the same around here, but usually you can find a 1g DSM in my area for sale without a hard time looking... Most of the people I found with them just have them in their garages and I find out from other people. Start going to garages and asking shop owners if they've seen any around for sale or know of anyone, you'd probably be surprised what you come up with.
