2G Rust repair

So I’ve got that typical 2g rust in front of the rear wheels. The part where dirt and rocks usually collect, maybe I’m missing a piece or soemthing, I can get a picture of how bad it is later. But it’s pretty bad what would be the best option for me here?

Cut the area out and get a clean piece to weld in from a southern car.

I’ve always just cut the area out and went and got sheet metal and made my own patches

Just cut it out and weld a new piece in.

Yep get a cut off wheel make sure to cut about 1/4” past where the rust stops so it’s clean metal. Go to Menards or Home Depot and buy some 1/4” sheet metal cut out the shape u need leave a little extra space then weld it in. If u don’t have a welder u could rivet the sheet metal in and use a little bondo aka body filler to hide the rivets

The caravan I riveted the metal in bondod over it and sanded and painted came out great

Ugh man, I mean you made it work, but the best way to do the repair is not with rivets and garden edging from Lowe's.

I was mechanic at a taxi company he didn’t want things done right he wanted them done cheap it was sheet metal though I cut it to shape I wasn’t gonna cut a piece from junk yard and weld it in for what he wanted to pay like I said weld it in if u can’t u can rivet it

U would not believe the crap this guy had me fix and also may I add I’m a mechanic not a body guy I just did what I could

If you find yourself in the city, take a look at the cabs while your in traffic, the stuff they do to maintain their general shape and keep them yellow is so brutal....

If you do not weld, SEM makes some great product for doing patch work. To source some good steel to make pieces, stop at a local junk yard and buy a cheap fender, or cut a chunk from a hood......much better than anything you will get from HD. The SEM stuff is also good for areas that you just dont want to go bringing the welding heat into, areas, where you dont want to burn the backside. Nothing wrong with using a rivet here n there to pin things in place while you work the metal into shape.

Its really easy to waste time and money if you go guessing on how its done, look things up and make sure your making good decisions
