Becoming really discouraged over this latest issue. Not sure where to look next.

Car began randomly losing power/dying while driving. Trying to accelerate when I would notice it stumbling would sometimes clear it up, and other times not. After dying at every stop, It would immediatly start back up, and I could continue driving. As it sits now, however, it will only run for a few seconds and die. As soon as it starts to go into a fast idle, there's a click, and it dies. Datalogger pulled a CEL of: 42.Fuel Pump Relay. With this I ordered a new(used) MPI relay from TheDSMGraveyard.com and installed it. No avail. Using my multimeter with the ignition ON, the male plug for the relay gives power, and the relay itself checks out per Haynes manual specifications. Pump runs when energizing the check terminal on the firewall, and while cranking, but not with the key ON.

I feel like I'm beginning to run in circles for a cure. Low fuel trim has been maxxed for a while now, could it be so out of wack that the ECU is shutting it down? I'm gonna do another boost leak test, but as of last week they were all pretty much buttoned down. What sucks is even if I found and fixed some new monstorous leak the trim wouldn't come down until the o2 got warm. Resetting the ECU doesn't help either.

Sorry I'm starting to ramble. Hopefully someone can shed some light here. Feel free to ask any questions. Thanks in advance.

After you changed out the MPI relay was the CEL still on? Definently check again for boost leaks because we all know those dam things can cause so many problems. Also check your base timing see if it's adjusted correctly.

Raining here so I can't get too into it, but the caps look to be ok, and yes the cel is still there with the new relay. One small little diode thing next to the main cap does appear to have some slight slight errosion. Just wish I had a dsm buddy down here that I could swap out ecu's with before I buy a used one (and potentially alot of other random crap). Thanks for the interest fellas. That alone gives me more hope that this'l get fixed.

I had my ECU capacitors fail, and had similar symptoms to you. There were a lot of random symptoms with sensors and such in the engine compartment, and clicking down behind the radio, and no fuel seemed to be getting to the engine.

UPDATE:

Motoguy's refurbished ECU did the trick! No visible signs of failure on the board. Thanks for the help guys!
