Hi, First post on here. This is the situation, I bought the car in jan, had front wheel bearing issues so i replaced them and the struts all around. then car drove fine for like a month. then started not wanting to stay running, it would start run for 3-5 sec and die. ( my first turbo car) I was thinking Fuel Pressure so replaced FPR with aftermarket with gauge. ( it's between 40-45psi) checked Fuel pump it's also fine.

Then did some more research on here and found out i have a 6Bolt 4G63 with a 97-99 CAS and a 98 ECU.

Anyways that's the background, the question is what would cause the car to shut off after 5 sec's? I mean it idles perfect for those 5 sec's and I can even rev it up with no issue. Should also mention I changed the plugs and wires as well.

make sure you get a good connection with your isc, tps (throttle body) the MAF sensor will stall the car too if it's not plugged in. worst case pay a technician do a timing job my personal experience.

Yeah I made sure I plugged the MAF back in and that everything was hooked up after I installed the FMIC.

Just trying to figure this car out. Anyone in the Wausau, Wi area who wants to come take a look deff can.

I'm thinking maybe it need's a 1G CAS?

Have you checked for any codes? My buddy just has a similair issue with his Dsm turned out the CAS was bad. I wouldn't change to a 1g CAS since you have the 97-99 style, just replace the sensor if that is the culprit.

No I haven't checked the codes yet. Everything I have read is pointing toward the Cas. I just wasn't sure if I needed to have the 1G CAS or could just replace the sensor on my 2G. To be honest this car was a huge mess when I got it. So I bought a new Cas and changed it out. Went to star the car and the battery was dead, so I hooked up the charger set it to one hour for it to shut off. Went out next morning to a smoking/ leaking battery. So i have to clean that up and get a new battery before i can confirm the new cas fixes the issue. Cas fixed it!

Here's a quick video I made documenting my struggles with my CAS on my 1995 Talon TSI. My car was idling for 3-5 seconds then would die. I was lucky enough to notice and investigate the recurring P0340 trouble code on my OBDII scanner.

Coolant temp sensor maybe disconnected? Not even sure if you have this in your swap but it's the two pronged sensor on the t-stat housing.

Would the car rev up and idle find an the die even if your foot was on the pedal? Fighting this problem right now.

Nice video. Thanks for making it! Can't be too careful. Makes me scared that parts are really drying up for our cars! :(
