ruff idle, tach reads sometimes, and motor lops

hi there total noob to the dsm's but not to car ...i bough the car like this..the car starts and runs every time the timing is right but exhaust smells rich the tach wont read over 1000 tell i lift off the throttle but then it wont go past 5000 when i slowly apply throttle the car doesn't respond then it revs up and down then as i keep going though the throttle it will respond and rev straight to the roof .... ive spent about $1200.00 at the shop and have had no luck with getting it fixed i put a new throttle position sensor new o2 sensor .... first guy said there was a leak in the throttle body he made a gasket and smoothed it out so it wouldn't be warped? so is my throttle body bad or is it a sensor or a vac leak
p.s. the car while driving basically doesn't respond to throttle tell its under load

Sounds like your MAF is unplugged to me.

Post some pics of the engine bay. More the better.

Get a smoke tester and test for vacuum leaks. Also do a boost leak test.

similar situation that I had, I put a new coil pack on and found some bad ground wires and if fixed it. not sure if that would help, also a new power transistor as well.

Your car is a 90 so has it had its computer replaced lately? Sounds like how my car ran with a 91 computer in it. I got my car that way and that is how it ran until i replaced the computer with the right one.

These should be the numbers on your computer.

If that is the problem u can either change the ecu or do the ecu conversion to run the 91-94 ecu on your car.

so here goes .... mechanic tried two comps on it didnt change anything he said. second mech did smoke test and got the vac leaks. if the lines are in the right spots idk... he is a good mech so i think he got it right... havent tested maf to see if its bad... or coil.... anyone know best way to test those .. and pretty sure its pluged in... also no check engine light why is that?.... btw thanks for all the replies and im putting up pics

Just please check those numbers on the ecu. A "mechanic" put the 91 ecu in my car also. It just so sounds exactly how my car was.

You sir have the wrong computer in your car. You have a 91-94 ecu in your car.
You need a MD145903 or MD128625 computer for a 1990 turbo dsm.

If your mechanic put it in, I would take it right back to him and demand a 90 ecu! Sounds like you gave them a lot of money not to fix your car.

well i bought the car like this with no title so i figure the ones the tried were the same kind and they sent them back no charge and put the old one back in so no change .... yea i thought it was a good buy for only 800 $ and the car only got 10800

hi there so i got a new ecu md128625 put it in the car and bolted it down im not the one that took out the orignal so yea kinda guessin but looks right found another small thing with two bolt nuts so i bolted that down as well went to turn key it just turns on doesnt sound like injectors turn on and the check engine light doesnt come on looked in manual said means no power to ecu but all fuses are in and not blow and same with under hood is there some hidin ones also pluged a bad ecu into car and cranked it over does that fry anything???? please help
