Hey guys, I got a quick question. Should I use the white high temp permatex thread sealant, rtv, or something else to seal up the two lines tapped into my filter housing. Cleaning up some oil leaks and wanna know what you guys would use.

I would use a thread sealant, like Loctite 567 which is an anaerobic "low strength" thread sealant. And yes, only on the pipe threads that are in your picture. Not in the flare-to-cone compression fittings.

567 works fine without an activator on both "active" and "passive" metals.
I imagine Permatex makes pretty much the same anaerobic stuff but don't know which product number it would be.

Taper threads like these BSPT ones do not require a thread sealant. Only straight threads will want a sealant.

You should be leak free if the sizes match, BSPT to BSPT, if you are using NPT in a BSPT holes then you may leak.

Any anaerobic sealant thread seal will do as long as its fairly low strength or later on you need to heat it up for removal with a torch.

I always use teflon tape on the threads of the fittings for the stainless lines. If I don’t they always have a leak. They “shouldn’t” leak without tape, however the risk is over tightening the threads and causing damage.

I use thread sealer on bolts with small thread, teflon tape on the larger threaded oil fittings and lines

What stainless lines?
