My 97 Eclipse GS is a manual...but she is shiffing pretty bad...and guys, don't even think bout giving me a hard time cause I'm a girl. I know how to drive.

I've changed out the lower and side motor mounts, even tho I've been positive the tranny mount needs changed since I bought her. I've got it, just gotta get the time to tackle that job.

Well, the past few months when I shift, mainly into 2nd and 3rd...she is starting to give me bit of a stall instead of shifting smoothly. Also giving a jerk (tranny mount I'm assuming).

I was curious if my ignition coil pack could be a culprit? It's got a rusty...umm...rod. I have no idea what it is called....think I've seen it called a nipple before??? It's causing my engine light, and I know how a car shifts when there is a faulty spark plug, and I'm getting that same affect...

What you guys think?

I don't think anyone here is going to give you a hard time about being a girl.

Does this get worse with higher RPMs? Is there any grinding?

Thanks LOL No grinding or noises. If I wait to shift at about 5000 rpms from 4th to 5th it will do it, but only sometimes. Usually just in low gears...I've tried messing around with shifting at different times, but still end up with the rough shift.

I had the tranny checked right before winter. They said levels were good and everything. I was kinda curious on the clutch...I noticed she is doing a faint pop when I press on the clutch. How would I check that? I've never messed with a clutch system before!

For clutch all you can do is check the fluid and make sure it's bleed, unless you take the transmission off. You can also adjust the clutch pedal to give it more throw, but im not 100 percent on if you can adjust clutch pedal on n/t's but look behind the clutch pedal there should be a rod with a nut on it. Loosen it then spin the rod to adjust it. Jacks transmissions has a YouTube video on how to do it to. When was the last time the fluid was actually changed though, not the fluid level. And what fluid was used.

I cannot tell you the last time the clutch fluid was changed...or what kind...probably never, seeing how much is wrong on this car. She's at 178k, so ya.

How do I check the clutch fluid? I've never messed with the clutch, nor do I even really know exactly where the assembly is...I know there is a piece under the battery...LOL that is it.

I do remember seeing an adjustment rod when I changed out my pedals, but I'm okay with it.

I meant when exactly was your transmission fluid changed and with what fluid? Clutch fluid there's a reservoir pretty small. To check all you do is look and make sure it's above the minimum line. But you know it's dirty when the fluid looks dark almost black.

Also you can check for clutch dragging...simple procedure. Might get you a complaint from your neighbors. Put the car on a flat surface, ebrake down, put it in first and keep holding the clutch all the way down, then rev your car all the way to redline, remember keep pushing your clutch all the way down and if your car moves forward then you've been having a clutch dragging issue and your synchros might have burned out. At that point adjust your clutch until it doesn't drag.
