I have had this car for about 2weeks now. 95 TSi. It has a very rough idle, but the rpm stays at just under 1k. The motor will vibrate very rough and if my doors are open or the headlights are on they dim slightly. Sounds like a misfire. Not getting a CEL though.

Car was sitting and not driven for over a year.

I have worked out a few things, but have had no luck.

Ive changed the plugs and wires with ngk and gapped plugs to .028. Wires 2 and 3 were miscrossed. No luck with that.

I got a new oem fuel filter and the car has old fuel in it too.

Ive got a brand new timing belt kit from slow boy that ive been waiting on, so im thinking the timing skipped a tooth or two, it looks pretty old.

Im at a loss from the lights dimming, whether its the interior lights or the headlights.

I don't know if this is related to the light dim but the battery is new, but ive also started thinking, the car has a power issue. My alpine won't stay on without me hooking up a battery charger to the positive and ground for the radio wires, the factory one won't even get power.

put some high octane fuel in check all the wires batt, load test the alternator, coil pack do u know what your doinn when it comes to timing on these cars make sure to mark it you dont want to screw it up any more than it is. does it run like a camed out nova cause that would be cams out

A power issue has been on my mind. It was okay till i brought it home, later that night when this started.

Yeah it sounds a bit like its cammed, almost as bad as my old 95 tsi, motor would vibrate so bad turns out i had CW then. Im not gonna mess with the timing, thats one of the last things i would do on these motors, im waiting on the timing parts to come in so i can drive the car. Might clear up many anomalies.

Im gonna test the alt. with a mulimeter. Im thinking i have a bad ground somewhere.

i would say also a clogged injector or two , mine did the same thing and i had 2 clogged injectros , try to unplug the injectors one by one while the car is on and see if there is difference in the idle when you unplug the injector if there is difference this injector is working if there is no difference in idle then probably you have a clogged injectros or stuck open/ closed injectros

good luck
