I drive a 93 AWD TSI. I took my car to the track this week and I did a few runs, on my way out of the track my AC belt broke and jammed up the accessory and PS belts. (This has happened before.) So i cut the belt, and the car started but idled bad and stalled every once in a while. I figured this was from the idle being so low since the AC belt was no longer spinning. So after another day of driving the car it started to vibrate a lot more. It also seems quite a bit louder than normal. The exhaust makes a faint "Poof" noise about every other second as well now.
At idle, the rpms move from 850-1000, but not surging, they just seem to fall from 1000 to 850 and then move back up after a while. On the logger, it shows the timing to move from 7 to 16 without touching the gas. The engine noise seems to be a lot louder, and the vibrations are definately noticable.
When driving, the engine noise is louder than the exhaust. And at exactly 2550 rpms there is a metal to metal sound almost like a heatshield rubbing noise (I have no heatshields.) When slowing down to a stop sometimes the car will try to die, and very rarely it will actually stall.
I haven't had a chance to diagnose this problem myself at all obviously, so I figured I would see anyone knew of any good places to start since I will be working on the problem this weekend (Hopefully not all weekend :thumbdown )
Anyway. Thanks for your help
Dan
