Since I'm in college I'm on a very tight budget to say the least. I was looking at a upgrade to a 14b a lil later on down the road. I was just wondering how much it will cost for a complete 14b swap including the adapter kit and j-pipe.

Thanks.
Chris

Saying you do it yourself, here's a list of the DIY parts (all prices are approximate):
14b turbo - $150
Oil feed line - $10 (stock 1g that goes to the 2g head)
Oil return line - FREE (your stock 2g with the holes filed a little closer together)
Water feed and return lines - FREE (a little modification to your 2g lines)
j-pipe- $15 (modify your stock LICP a little to bolt up to the j-pipe)

That should be all that I can think of. Of course you'll have to take a look at how to modify your oil return line and your water lines, a long with your lower intercooler pipe. That should get you started. Of course factor in some money for misc. bolts and washers. Keep posting for questions or help. Keep in mind this is for a supreme budget.

You dont have to modify the licp at all. Its plenty long enough its just shaped differently then you need. And its not very far off at all. You just have to pull it where you want it, and put the clamp on while you hold it or it will pull itself back off the j-pipe.

Or an easier way is to disconnect it from the intercooler and put it on the j-pipe first. Then put it on the intercooler.

Awesome, thanks guys. That's wayyy cheaper than I expected. So the 14b will bolt directly onto the manifold like the T25? Nice :thumb:

Just one more question, and this is purely opinion but everybody's is welcome! My car has 148,000 miles on it with decent compression and I would like to mod as I get money to spare. My plan of action in order is: 1. 3" turboback from custom exhaust shop 2. 1G BOV 3. 14b 4. Rewired fuel pump if needed. Do you guys think that these mods will be too much for this high of a mileage car?

My goal is to have a car that has great performance but doesn't cost an arm and a leg. I like to be able to tell people that I did all my work myself and I didn't pay out my a$$ for it. Kinda nice bragging rights if you ask me. :sneaky:

Hey, I've been reading up on 1g bov's. I just have one question, if I were to replace my 2g BOV with a 1g BOV, would I gain any power or noticeable gains from it?

My 14b install cost me a whole lot more than I bargained for. Gaskets, Lubricants, sealants, nuts and bolts. And not to mention food and drinks. Plus the cost of parts needed. I honestly think that a install kit might be worth it.

i'm in the exact same position man. in college, and on a tight budget. i'm definitely going the 14b, 1g bov route as well. most of the 14bs out there i've seen are 125-175 ish, just call a junkyard or something, they're all over the place. i'm considering an install kit, like SBR's http://www.slowboyracing.com/more.php?id=93&, but its more expensive b/c it comes with some hard piping, etc. i would assume its more convienent though. my 95gst has 141000 miles on it, so i'm not looking to push it to the extreme, just to have some fun. later

So how much do you think you spent overall Zexell? I'd rather not spend 200 bucks if I don't have to. It might make it easier, but it's still 200 bucks I could use on my future exhaust.LOL

i did mine a week ago..and had to oreder half the kit from rre anyways...the oil line and IC pipe are def necisary...the stock icp gives u a major boost leak..my opinion..just buy rre's kit and save urself alot of trouble

Ok guys. REALLY. You do not need that install kit. I bought my 14b for 120 and it came with all lines and the stock outlet elbow. Thats everything you need right there. I bought some gaskets and bolts and spent maybe 40 on that stuff.

The stock lower intercooler pipe fits just fine! I will go out to my car right now and snap some pictures for you guys. It really is easy. Once you do it and see how easy it is you will be glad you didnt spend 200 on that kit.

Edit: I forgot about the 50 dollar SS oil feed line.

i spent $150 total for my 14b turbo, oil feed, j pipe, oil change and new coolant... you do not need the overpriced 2g install kit

Here are some pics. The stock licp fits just fine. I probably shouldve cleaned the outlet elbow but Im lazy like that. If you think it looks loose, its not.

Thanks alot for the help guys! I'm going to start looking for a 14b in a few days. I just got my tax return and half is going to the turbo and half is going to my debts.LOL (that'll make a dent....... )

How much time should I take out of my schedule to do this? I'll probably be doing it during the summer but I am just curious how long it took you guys to do yours.

Peace,

:dsm: :thumb: :dsm:

I dont know how you got your LICP to stretch like that. My stock one is a Z shape and it can't be stretched. Also I have my auto tranny that sits right in between my IC and my turbo.

Did you flip it around? The side that normally goes into the intercooler now connects to the outlet elbow and visa versa.

Not to hijack the thread, but I have heard from a few members that the 14b they installed didn't make a noticable power increase over the T25. I have a 14b that needs a rebuild and I am wondering if it is even worth it?

Its definetly noticable. Maybe they had some tired 14b's? Holds boost all the way till redline compared to the t25 falling off. But its still not a top end turbo, and I still try to shift before 7k.

cool man, I thought that maybe they had a tired turbo or something because I have also heard that the 14b is a good upgrade for a 2g. thanx man.

I know where to get a Garrett t3/t4 in either a/r .48 or .62 for about $600 dollars cdn....

If your interested.

I've seen some dynos on here from people getting 250whp from just with the 14b swap and BPU so I think it's worth it.

As for the install kit, I'm buying the one off of SBR, it's $200. I was thinking about using the stock j-pipe and everything but I'm getting the 14b from my friend and he's upgrading to a 16g so he's going to need all the lines and what not. Also I heard that the oil from the head isn't the best oil, so I'd rather get it from the filter with a ss line.

I was trying to sell this fully ported/polished 14b with a brand new 16g housing and wastegate for $180.00 including an install kit, Shipping and handeling... Everyone seems to want it for next to nothing though :toobad: :notgood:

The 16G compressor wheel is a larger wheel than the 14b. And so the compressor housing is machined differently to accomidate the larger wheel. The outside of the housings are identical. Which is why the 16G is a good turbo for the sleeper look. The turbine housings are identical in everyway as they both use TDO5 wheels.
