I really wanted to share my recent 14b install for my 2g with any one on a really tight budget. I'm paying on a mortgage and rent plus trillions of others bills on a Sargent pay while my wife works nights for 9$ an hr. so you can understand that money is real tight for me. I know that many of us dsm'ers out there have a dsm because we want speed for cheap. well, Im going to show you how you can take that sorry excuse for a turbo t25 off and replace it with a real MHI turbo such as a 14b or even better a 16g, 18g and 20g. most of the parts on the t25 will work on your MHI. here is a list of what your can do without buying
1.Turbo inlet pipe. (INTAKE PIPE)
2.Manifold
3.water lines
4.oil feed line. though i strongly suggest to buy a SS one. 30 bucks on eBay
the reason for this is because the t25 oil feed line has a kind of stopper in the center cartridge that fits it snug. the mhi does not. i used a washer and a o ring to fit it tight with no chance to leak. though I haven't got the car running yet. i have a bad ignition coil, but im very confident that it wont leak.
5. oil return line. you can just bore out the holes on the turbo side. there a bit to far apart to fit it to a mhi. but my 14b came with one. it would make it easier. but it can be done with a 2g one.
6. O2 housing
7. all bolts and hardware.
these are things that you cannot do without.
1. MHI turbo obviously..
2. J pipe. you have to have this the t25 has a pipe that goes strait to the inter cooler pipe. the mhi has a bolt on pipe that goes to a L pipe.. you dont need a L pipe. but it would make things easier. ill get into that later. you can get one for 30 buxs on eBay. and its a very good quality. took me 2 hrs to drill through it. very hard stainless steel.
3. a Asian vehicle hardware kit. you can get one at auto zone. there will probably be some broke bolts or studs that wont be usable.
4. You will also probably have a stud or two on the t25 to manifold that will have to be replace. you can use m10x1.25 bolts. i had to buy 2. there 3.69 ea at home depot.
now things you will have to "Jerry rig". on the J pipe thing. if you were to buy a L pipe. you would find that it has a nipple on it. this nipple will have a line going to the waste gate. or your manual boost controller. If your cheap like me you can just drill out a hole on the J pipe. you can use the nipple on the t25 compressor housing. un bolt it and keep that safe. drill out the the hole a little at a time till the nipple will fit snug. use a o ring to make sure its tight. Use a 10mm socket and socket wrench to make it easier to screw it in. it will take some force. to test this crudely. cover one end of the pipe and the nipple and blow into the pipe as hard as you can. if its leaks then you have a problem. put the hole some where in the center of the pipe.
you may have to get some new gaskets. mine were ok, but I suggest to pick some up. header, O2 housing, turbo to manifold, oil return turbo and oil pan side. if you find that your gaskets are reusable then you will just need the return line gaskets. go to a auto store. and see if they stock them. if they dont an EGR gasket for a Ford v6 99-02, Nissan L4 88-04, Nissan v6 88-04 or a Nissan v8 90-92 will fit, you may have to do a bit of drilling to make the holes fit just right but it will do that job. this may sound all very confusing to a new guy, but look up any where on this site to find a MHI turbo install instructions then apply mine to the parts that require a little bit of finesse and you'll have a good turbo in no time.
to get the stock intercooler pipe to fit from the intercooler to the J pipe. All you have to do is take it off, then flip it over so the side that when to your turbo now goes to the intercooler. make sure the bend in the tube goes down and not up. this will make due for less kinking in the tube. kinda like this ****l.........
all of this only cost me a total of 190.04$ I got a good buy off of the classifieds on a 14b for 120$ just do a little searching and you find a good deal. and a 25$ jug of Valvoline oil high mileage.
from buying to finish. buying allllllll the way to installing it only took me a week, with 2 days of install. And this was my first turbo install. for all you dsm vets out there.. try not to be to harsh on my ghetto rigging. I do what i can with what i have.
I hope this helps. Good hunting People.
