howdy all, I got a 14b layin around from my gsx ad wan to put it on my talon tsi. im gonna buy the install kit and a new manifold to turbo gasket, and turbo/o2 housing gasket. but since the 14b has bee layong around for like 6 months is there anything I should do to it before using it? Besides things such as a fresh oil change....

How many miles on the turbo? Do you know if its been rebuilt? Any shaft play? I wouldn't run it without a fresh rebuild just to be on the safe side. Unless of course it was just freshly done. I just wouldn't risk throwing a used turbo on and having it take the motor out! Anyway at the least I would take it apart and insect the bearings and thrust plate and wheels for damage and then reassemble with assembly lube, so the bearings aren't dry on start up. You should also prime the oil system once you do the turbo swap and are complete. This ensures oil pressure for the first start up and again keeping the turbo from starting dry. Also a good time to do some port and polish work to the exhaust manifold, turbine housing and o2 housing! :) don't forget you need a jpipe!

Toss it in, I've ran 14b's that have sat much longer. They are solid turbos.

-Of course this is assuming you inspected it before purchasing.
