So recently i noticed a scraping sound coming from the front right rotor when turning left. The rotor was scraped fairly badly. I figured i just needed new pads. I ordered new ebc rotors along with Hawk HP pads and replaced them. After installing them and following break in procedures for the pads the front right rotor is still scraping but only when turning left. I cant find anything that would cause the scraping. Has this happened to anyone or does anyone have an idea of what could be causing this? Thanks

I do not know if 2g's use clips on the caliper mounting bracket, but sometimes I will get a car that makes noise when only turning one way, and it will be an anti rattle clip that is intermittently making contact with the rotor when the weight is shifter on or away from that side. Also, check to see if the wheel bearing is loose. If there is clearance in the wheel bearing, it will sometimes cause the rotor to come into contact with the backing plate which will make this noise. Take pictures and post them up of the rotor.

Check the dust shield/backing plate again. Just lightly bend it one way and drive it. If that doesn't work bend it the other way. I've had that happen on a couple different cars and that's all it took to stop the noise.

BINGO..... I just had this same issue. If you look at the dust shield you will see if it has been rubbing. A little frustration a brass punch and a mallet will fix this in no time. Just check it every once in a while. I put white out on the dust shield and if it is gone when I check it, I do a little more fabrication. :thumb: Hope this helps.

Thanks everyone for the reply. I dont think its the dust shield because the scraping is on the front side of the rotor. Im trying to upload some pictures right now. I will also check the wheel bearings.

this is the old rotor

Please excuse the dirty rim in the pics above, we have been expecting rain so the car is a bit dirty.

There has to be something wrong with the way the caliper, pads, rattle clips etc. are positioned. Something is dragging on the rotor in there somewhere or your bearing is shot.:hmm:

Yeah it has to be the wheel bearing. There is quite a bit of play on that side only. Is it just a coincidence that the bearing would wear faster than the other or could something else be the culprit?

Glad you found the culprit. I did both my wheel bearings not too long ago. I took them apart and cleaned everything to my satisfaction. I then found a transmission shop that had a press to put them back together. Many different ways are out there, but I just did not want to beat on new bearings with a hammer. Job is pretty straight forward, but those retaining clips are a pain in the A@$. Mitsparts.com had the cheapest bearings and seals that I could find. Don't forget the inner and outer seal as well as the bearing and some extra grease.

thanks for the help. i may attempt it myself but i dont really have anybody that could help me press the bearings in. Would replacing the whole hub assembly with an aftermarket from oreillys be an acceptable alternative?

I would replace them both it maybe 6 months or 2 weeks but the other will go out.

i was forced to take it to a local shop. I need the car for school and i just didnt have the money for both because i just spent all my money on books. They charged me 230 for one side using oem wheel bearing and seals. Does that sound right?

It's funny how I just went through the same thing! I had issues with my car turning left and would have a binding sound. and at high speed breaking, it would somewhat vibrated even with new brakes pads/rotors installed... It frustrated me so I took the thing apart and BAMMMM, WHEEL BEARING WAS SHOT on the passenger side..

Glad you resolved the issue..

I know it was weird I didn't even think it could be the, wheel bearing.
