roll pins and non stock or double pins for shift forks

This is probably aimed more at @twicks69 but anyway....
I just installed a non stock roll pin in 1/2 fork and damn that thing was difficult to do. I'm afraid I won't be able to remove it when the time comes. I put stock pins in the others. In all my years I've never seen a roll pin move. Why do we use these other pins? Or double pins too? Why?
 
What exact dimension roll pin did you use? What exact shift fork? OEM?
