Rod knock symptoms

Hey guys i just bought a 98 gst for my wife. I towed the gst home cause it was really far drive from my house. Well got home and took it for a spin around the block and and noticed a slight knocking or tapping sound around 3k or higher. The higher rpms i go the faster the knocking or tapping sounds comes.

At idle the motor sounds great idles perfect. I do remember hearing the belts or a belt squeeling when i first start it up.


I need your guys help to pinpoint were this noise is coming from??

I know of a local running 7-bolt longblock if you are interested PM me Matt. Head comes off with a 12mm 12 point socket.

6 Bolt swap plenty of them in the junkyard that are plenty good.

Thanks bud. I already have a spare 7 bolt bolt bottem end. Im in the process of takin everything off the old motor and swapping all the parts to the good 7bolt short block. I also have a good running 6 bolt sitting in my shop as well BUT dont think i wanna put it in this 2g 98 gst cause its a auto and its gonna be my wifes daily driver and its a convertable shes always wanted

ALSO guys i was thinking about installing my 1g 6 bolt CAS into the new 2g 7 bolt motor is it worth doing in your opinions or no???

I have a adjustable CAS in my car and honestly I would just stay with the stock setup.
