Hey guys I am working on my 2g Talon project and am deciding on the next step. My car had sat a long time and the rockers actually rusted in the head. Anyways was working on getting a replacement set. Got two sets from the junkyard over the last few months. First set were kinda dirty but finding a 4g63 is kinda rare. They came from a 93 eclipse non turbo. They are all the same rockers so no biggie there. A few months later I raided a 2004 Hyundai Sonata to get some 3g lifters. At the same time I picked up the rockers that were in that engine as its was the 2.4 4g64 dohc. Engine was nice and clean and was a wrecked car. So today I decided to go threw and see what I had. Ended up with this.
19 Good ones, or they at least past round one inspection. 8 meh ones. They should probably be in the trash pile. And 5 junk ones.
So I was going threw since a few of the from the Hyundai and some are from an Eclipse in the good pile. No complete set from either car. Anyways length seems to match from front to back. Lifter holes look the same. However I did notice this.
The oil feed hole is different. The hole diameter is the same or seems to be. Eclipse on the left (dirty ones) hyundai on the right. (clean ones). So now I am debating on pulling another set of rockers and trying to get a matching set. I really did not like the set that came out of the 93. It was a high mileage car and the rollers seem to have more play than the newer hyundai set. A few from the eclipse were shot due to the rollers. Engine was very dirty inside. I think it had 250k and the last few miles were not great to it. Granted it was a wreck so it was running. But that engine was black inside. So was there a change over on the rockers. Are the 4g64 different enough not to work. There are a couple 3000gt/steath in the junkyard. So I could raid a set of 24 from them or maybe another kia/hyundai set from a 4g64 dohc car. This was I could have a complete set. What would you guys do?
