I've often found it weird and almost stupid when working on porsche 911/944/930/928 ect.. road race cars (and many others') that "sensibally" the road race "cut-ff" can be mounted under the hood with a piece of braided cable reacing out to a "loop" on the A-pillar where a rolled driver or driver for any other reason can kill his power at will
In drag racing it seems the switch has to be on the back of the car where ONLY a track official can kill power and that may take them a minute to get there.
I see it like this. even an "average car" can hit 130MPH on the back straight and may no have the suspension or chassis for it, but any drag car reaching thopse spseeds in the 1320 has to be hauling some mahoy ass and is probably well setup to handle it.. So why must the driver wait on a track official to come shut off what could be causing a fire?
Another one i find pointless is that a road race cage can be MIG welded in ALL spots and pass tech (seen it a BUNCH) as the techs/marshallsc come out well befor erace season to certify the cars, yet "drag cars" which some never even get to 130 mph (let lalone have to make a turn afterwards) will ever reach 130mph and if they do wwrck there's walls to bounce off of...YET their casegs MUST be TIG welded EVERYWHERE except where the metal plate from the cage attachesto the uni-body/fram structuture (which can be MIG welded)
Can anyone shed some light opn these bass-ackwards rules for me.. IMO it should be the other way around :*shrugs*
