Riken Raptor Z rated?

I got a guy that has 4 Riken tires that came off his Porsche 944. He went to a different tire. The thing is the tires are different sizes. two 225/50/16, and two 205/55/16. These are Z rated tires, and he has them for a price you can't beat. I'm confused as the size difference though? I guess I could put the 205/55's on the back, and put the wider 225/50 on the front. I'm wondering if its a good idea, and will it screw up how the car drives? What do you think?

It's bad for an AWD car if the tires aren't the same size all around. It'll mess with the drivetrain.

The wider tires were likely in the back since the Porch is rear wheel drive.

Ive used a 215 before on my front wheel drive when I had a flat and it was all I had for a spare. Rest of the tires were 205's. Car seemed to drive find but did pull a bit to that side.

For yours your talking about a 20mm difference. If you put the 225's up front they will probably rub when turning hard. That 215 did on mine, but that car had camber issues.

But yeah, if you are driving an AWD you want matched wheel and tires so it doesnt burn up the center diff.

You guys aren't making it very clear... You should never put that much of a change in tire diameter on an AWD car... I have ran mis matching tires but the exact same specs. ex/ I have toyo proxies in the front and pirelli nero zeros in the rear... But the all are 225/40/18.. Softer tires in the rear and a directional in the front..

Just so you know, those tires are only $63 brand new at Discount tire. Thats why he's selling them so cheap. You're better off getting them brand new, all the same size.

The reason you shouldn't put two different diameter tires on our AWD car is because in the end the front wheels will be turning at a different rate than the rear wheels. This will impact the center diff and the VCU. Possibly burning up the VCU and placing a lot of unneeded strain on the center diff.

But what other people are not remembering is that diameter is calculated like this: ((2 X Section Width X Aspect Ratio) / 2540) + Wheel Diameter = Tire Diameter

So as your width goes up and the aspect ratio goes down the overall tire diameter stays roughly the same.

205/55-16 = 24.8582"

225/50-16 = 24.8779"

.0197" difference... You're not going to notice anything. As long as the tires are evenly worn.

Now if they were the same series (both 55's) it would be a different story:

225/55-16 = 25.7440 (That's an inch taller)

BTW, if you buy them, put the wider 225's on the back, not the front.

Well then, I'll offer him 35 apiece. I really only need two for the back as they are really the ones that need replaced. I'll only buy the to tires that are the same as the current tires on the front.

Used tires go for $10 bucks a piece around here, plus another $10 to mount and balance them. You may want to offer the guy $20 bucks.

Right well there was about 90% tread on them, or more, they are pretty new. Anyways the guy said he needed all four to go, so I'm still looking....

Just buy new tires in the same size. They are really cheap anyway as mentioned.
