I've been researching revised lifters (3g) and see a difference in pricing between two brands. These two differing brands are Topline (extremepsi, slowboy) and ITM (ebay, partsdinosaur). The prices for the Toplines are around $150, while ITM would run about $85. Everyone is looking for a deal. I'm wondering if the Topline's have a superior design or if they are essentially the same product. Those running either lifter - your imput would be appreciated.

I am on the same boat. Not to hijack but here is another question about the lifters. Are the revised ones only good to fix the 'tick' problem or are they actually better? Thanks. :thumb:

I myself have the Topline( partsdinosaur) the guys awesome, and they look great. They cost about what you posted and arrived FAST. Now I just need to get my car running.

There's only one kind of lifter for DSMs, which have been revised over the years. Go with the best price.

As a moderator, I think you should be 100% certain there is only one manufacture of this part before making such a post, eh?

Not trying to bust anyone's balls, but I can think of a lot of parts that look alike, but are not made by the same manufacture.

I don't understand what you mean by this. The lifters (aka lash adjusters) look alike, however they are manufactured by two different companies, hence the Topline and ITM branding. I'm questioning the longevity, quality, and performance issues that might be different or the same between the two.

Partsdinosaur does not carry Topline lifters. Their website states that they are ITM, unless they also carry Topline and do not have them listed/or I overlooked it.

Hmmm.....maybe I am mistaken on which brand I have OMG but they are quality parts non the less. Everything I have gotten from him has worked great.

Not to get off topic but does anyone have or know where there are pics comparing the 2g & 3g lifters? (only seen pics of 1g vs 2g) If I recall correctly the holes in the end are the same in both but the 3g version has a larger side hole & they are also slightly different heights. I thought I read they changed the lifters somewhere in the 98 model year & I have always wondered if I had the 2g or 3g version.

Have also heard that Topline actually makes the lifters for Mitsu, I know I have only heard good things about the Toplines.

I said that there is one kind of lifter, not one manufacturer.

I am unaware of lifters being a weak point, apparently without regard to manufacturer. As with timing belts, it's not the sort of product you can just sit down with a lathe, welder, grinder or pipe bender and start cranking out.

I take for granted an engine builder is only replacing lifters as a set. Whose they are, again, seems to be a non-issue. What goes on under the apple tree isn't in consideration.

When I go home in the next week or so I'll find my old lifters and pull one of my new ones out and see if I can snap some pics. If I can even find my old ones.

I was gonna post the BLE lifters as well. But, there is a difference. "3rd Gen" lifters are acutally taller than the revised lifters. We found that out the hard way. You absolutely must get the revised lifters for our cars. The ones for the 3rd gen what ever will allow valve to picton contact.

3G lifters does not mean lifters for the 3G eclipse... it means the 3rd revision...

Taken from VFAQ:
The first version of lifters used on early 1Gs (possibly up to early 2Gs) had extremely small top holes. The second version had a top hole about 3-4 times larger, and a larger groove on the side. First version is on the left, second on the right. Note that the second version was also slightly shorter in total height than the first. The third and latest version (as of 2004) is the same total height as the first version, has a top hole the size of the second version, and a side oil feed hole larger than the first or second version for even more oil flow to the followers.

To clarify, like 2gAWDTalon just posted, I was refering to the 3 revisions of the lifters for our cars, not lifters from a "3g Eclipse"

I went with engnbldr or something like that on ebay and when I got them the boxes said topline on them and they were only 79 bux :thumb:

I actually have the revised lifters and they still tick quite a bit. I realize all hydraulic lifters will tick a little but this is excessive. Has anyone else had this problem?
