I pulled the end cover on the tranny to investigate a whirring noise. I found that I have a good amount of play in the intermediate shaft....

The reverse synchro ring fell out. How does this go back in?

ANSWER: Put the car in reverse and it is quite obvious how the ring site in there.

That's 5th gear your looking at, reverse is on the opposite side of the trans.

Wirring could be a lot of things, time to rip it apart or send it to someone who knows the trans.

It is held in by the wave spring on the cone of the end case. If the end case isn't on, nothing holds it in. If your intermediate shaft has play, it needs removed and new bearings put on it.

Retorque those two nuts that you can see, they might be loose.
108ftlbs I believe it is, right? If you can see that the notch is still intact you shouldn't need to retorque them.

The notch was good. This tranny needs to come out.

Can this happen without removing the tranny?
